How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    This position is a Fixed Term Contract until the end of January 2028*

    As part of the team working in Analysis and Performance, supporting Policing for our Communities (PfoC) programme, you will provide business intelligence support/analysis to the project consisting of the combined analysis of police intelligence and organisational performance.

    Key Responsibilities:

    * To keep abreast of current and future developments, techniques and products within the area of business intelligence analysis to assist the analytical capabilities of Police Scotland.

    * Support the Business Intelligence Co-ordinator in the provision of business intelligence analysis which contributes to the development of organisational policy, and to improving the effectiveness and efficiency of operational policing services.

    * Within area of business intelligence analysis to conduct data research, data analysis, data evaluation and report writing, applying both quantitative and qualitative techniques.

    * In line with Force priorities contribute to a range of high quality strategic business intelligence assessments consisting of the combined analysis of police intelligence and organisational performance.

    * Conduct relevant environmental scanning focussed on policing issues in support of strategic planning and operational activity.

    * To address business intelligence requirements at strategic and tactical level developing theories relative to any intelligence gaps and/or performance

    * Develop and maintain links with external partners, particularly those working in relevant fields of academia, government and other public sector agencies.

    * As required, to prepare and deliver presentations and briefings on business intelligence analysis.

    * Will be responsible for assessing and self-managing risk within all aspects of the role.
