How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Location: Andover, Hampshire
    Employment type: Permanent
    Salary: To be confirmed

We are seeking a Test Development Engineer to join an independent semiconductor test house, a specialist centre of excellence providing semiconductor device analysis, characterisation, qualification and testing services.

This is a varied, technically demanding position combining electronic circuit design, test hardware development, automated test programming, laboratory testing, results analysis and direct customer communication.

Reporting to the Technical Director, the successful engineer will develop and conduct ESD, Latch-up and Transmission Line Pulse testing for semiconductor devices. Previous specialist experience in all three testing disciplines is not essential where the applicant can demonstrate strong electronic design, debugging, measurement and problem-solving capabilities.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Interpret and reorganise semiconductor device pin-list information and package outline drawings
    • Clarify technical test requirements directly with customers
    • Construct automated test programs for ESD, Latch-up and TLP testing
    • Ensure powered semiconductor devices remain in a stable operating state during testing
    • Design supporting test hardware, including specialist power supplies and test fixture PCBs
    • Create and implement I-V curve-tracing programs
    • Conduct semiconductor device testing in accordance with documented procedures and safe device-handling practices
    • Review and analyse initial results, investigating deviations from expected performance
    • Discuss technical findings and recommended next steps with customers
    • Prepare summary reports and detailed test-results data
    • Recommend additional testing to support fault investigation, device debugging and re-spin revisions
    • Assist with the development of new test methods and commercially valuable testing services
    • Contribute to technical development projects alongside the Technical Director and wider team
    • Support continual improvement and procedural compliance within an ISO 9001 and ISO 17025 environment
    • Periodically represent the business at relevant ESD standards committee meetings

    ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

    • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a closely related technical discipline
    • At least one year of practical electronic circuit design and debugging experience
    • At least one year of commercial experience, ideally within electronics, engineering, production, test or a laboratory environment
    • Strong fault-finding ability and a logical, structured approach to problem solving
    • Understanding of electrical and electronic measurement principles and their practical limitations
    • Practical experience with electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies or automated testers
    • Strong numerical ability and attention to detail
    • Experience working accurately to documented procedures
    • Good written and verbal communication skills
    • Experience communicating directly with customers or other external technical stakeholders
    • Competence using PCs and Microsoft Office applications
    • Ability to work independently, manage priorities and complete work to agreed deadlines
    • Practical aptitude, good manual dexterity and an awareness of electrostatic control practices

    DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE

    • Semiconductor device testing or characterisation
    • Electrostatic discharge testing
    • Latch-up testing
    • Transmission Line Pulse testing
    • Automated electronic test-program development
    • I-V curve tracing
    • Multi-layer PCB design or layout software
    • Test fixture or specialist power-supply design
    • ISO 9001-certified or ISO 17025-accredited working environments
    • Preparation of controlled technical documentation, procedures and test reports

    PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

The successful candidate will be meticulous, practical and naturally inquisitive. You should be comfortable investigating unexpected results, challenging existing methods constructively and recommending improved technical solutions.

You will need to communicate confidently with customers, take ownership of commitments and maintain consistently high standards of accuracy, quality and procedural compliance.

    THE OPPORTUNITY

This position offers the opportunity to develop highly specialist knowledge within semiconductor device testing while contributing to new test methods, technical services and future revenue streams.

You will work closely with experienced technical colleagues and have direct involvement in solving complex customer testing and device-characterisation challenges.

To apply, please submit your CV together with a short summary of your electronic circuit design, testing, fault-finding or laboratory experience
