How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

We're recruiting an experienced Head of Business Operations to join an ambitious and growing technology-led business based in Cheshire.

This newly created leadership role will become the operational backbone of the business, taking ownership of the internal running of the organisation and allowing the Managing Director and Technical Director to focus on commercial growth, innovation and customer delivery.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you'll become a trusted member of the leadership team, with responsibility for HR, finance operations, business support, facilities, health & safety, suppliers and operational improvement.

This is an outstanding opportunity for someone who enjoys creating structure, improving business performance and genuinely influencing how an organisation grows.

As Head of Business Operations, you'll provide strategic operational leadership across the business, ensuring the people, systems and processes are in place to support continued growth.

Working closely with the leadership team, you'll oversee the Business Support function while driving operational excellence across multiple departments. You'll enjoy improving processes, implementing new ways of working and creating accountability, whilst remaining close enough to the day-to-day operation to understand what the business needs.

This role would suit someone who enjoys working within a growing SME, is commercially aware and wants the opportunity to shape how a business operates over the coming years.

    Head of Business Operations Responsibilities

    • Lead the day-to-day operational performance of the business.
    • Act as the Managing Director's trusted operational partner.
    • Lead and develop the Business Support function.
    • Provide leadership, direction and accountability across the support team.
    • Take ownership of HR processes, employee lifecycle activities and recruitment.
    • Oversee payroll, working alongside external payroll providers and accountants.
    • Support budgeting, forecasting and operational financial reporting.
    • Develop business processes, policies and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Manage facilities, office operations, IT assets and supplier relationships.
    • Lead Health & Safety compliance across the business.
    • Coordinate marketing activity alongside internal stakeholders and external agencies.
    • Support customer events, exhibitions and wider business initiatives.
    • Introduce operational reporting, KPIs and governance to support future growth.

    Head of Business Operations Benefits

    • £55,000 - £65,000 salary depending on experience.
    • Newly created leadership role with genuine autonomy and influence.
    • Direct partnership with the Managing Director and leadership team.
    • Hybrid working (typically four days office-based).
    • 33 days' annual leave including bank holidays.
    • Private healthcare for you and your family.
    • Up to 5% employer pension contribution.
    • Investment in learning, development and leadership training.
    • Genuine opportunity to shape the future of a growing business with excellent long-term progression.

    Head of Business Operations Requirements

    • Current or recent experience as a Head of Business Operations, Business Operations Manager, Operations Manager, General Manager, Practice Manager or similar leadership role.
    • Experience leading operational functions within a growing SME environment.
    • Practical operational HR experience, including employee lifecycle management.
    • Experience overseeing payroll and working alongside external accountants.
    • Strong commercial awareness with exposure to budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting.
    • Experience improving business processes and implementing operational change.
    • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
    • A proactive, hands-on leadership style with the confidence to take ownership and make decisions.
    • Able to work from the Cheshire office approximately four days per week.

    Desirable

    • Experience working within engineering, technology, professional services or another growing SME environment.
    • Exposure to facilities management, Health & Safety or supplier management.
