How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    We are now looking for a Housing Options Officer to join us on a full-time basis, working 37 hours per week on a 22 month fixed-term contract.

    The Role

    As a Housing Options Officer, you will provide high-quality housing advice and homelessness prevention services to individuals and families across the borough.

    Helping customers understand their options and access the support they need, you will oversee a diverse caseload. You will investigate housing circumstances, provide professional advice in line with current legislation and Council policy, and take proactive steps to prevent or relieve homelessness through tailored housing solutions.

    You will also work closely with partner agencies and internal Council teams to deliver an integrated service, developing personalised housing plans and supporting customers to achieve sustainable housing outcomes.

    Additionally, you will:

    - Support customers to use the Home Connections online application system
    - Attend rough sleeper sightings to provide advice and assistance
    - Assist eligible customers with applications to the Rent Deposit Guarantee Scheme
    - Refer customers to Children's Services and other appropriate support organisations
    - Carry out home visits where required

    About You

    To be considered as a Housing Options Officer, you will need:

    - Experience in a customer service and/or housing environment
    - Experience of effective partnership working that has delivered positive outcomes
    - The ability to manage a varied caseload involving detailed and complex investigations
    - Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    - Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills
    - The ability to deal sensitively, professionally and confidentially with members of the public
    - An understanding of equality and diversity issues and experience applying them in practice
    - Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office
    - At a minimum, GCSEs (or equivalent), including English and Maths
    - A full, current driving licence and access to your own transport

    A DBS check will be carried out for this post.
