How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    THE BUSINESS

    Our client is one of the world's leading manufacturers of steel pipes for the energy and construction sectors. This is an exciting opportunity to join the newly formed organisation at the beginning of a major investment programme that will transform the future outlook for the site and business.

    The successful applicant will join a forward-looking business, committed to making a positive contribution to the energy transition, working on behalf of major energy companies across the globe to deliver some of the industry's most demanding projects in a work environment where safety, collaboration and continuous improvement are at the heart of everything they do.

    Reporting to the Plant Mechanical Engineer, this role offers the opportunity to play a key part in improving manufacturing capability across one of the UK's largest submerged arc welded (SAW) pipe mills. Working alongside engineering, production and project teams, you will be responsible for designing, developing and implementing engineering solutions that enhance productivity, reliability, safety and environmental performance.

    THE ROLE

    • Design, develop and update plant machinery and equipment to improve productivity, capability and reliability.
    • Produce engineering drawings, specifications and design documentation to support plant improvement activities.
    • Maintain accurate design office records and ensure plant drawings remain up to date.
    • Support the delivery of plant improvement and CAPEX projects from concept through to installation and commissioning.
    • Carry out detailed site surveys to capture accurate information for engineering designs.
    • Work closely with plant engineers to develop practical engineering solutions for operational challenges.
    • Liaise with suppliers and OEMs to resolve equipment design issues and ensure manufactured components meet specification.
    • Provide technical support to installation teams during project delivery.
    • Identify opportunities to improve equipment performance while considering project budgets and cost efficiencies.
    • Work collaboratively with engineering, maintenance and production teams to ensure effective communication throughout projects.
    • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with company quality standards, engineering best practice and HSE legislation.
    • Promote continuous improvement by incorporating health, safety and environmental considerations throughout the design and project lifecycle.

    THE PERSON

    • Degree, HND or equivalent qualification in a Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
    • 1 year post graduation experience in a design role
    • Previous experience within a mechanical design, project engineering or similar engineering role.
    • Ideally completed a recognised engineering apprenticeship within a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment.
    • Experience producing engineering drawings and working within a design office environment.
    • Knowledge of plant machinery, mechanical handling equipment or heavy industrial manufacturing processes.
    • Understanding of mechanical engineering principles with the ability to develop practical engineering solutions.
    • Experience supporting engineering projects from initial design through to installation and commissioning would be advantageous.
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to build relationships across engineering, production, contractors and suppliers.
    • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to problem solving and continuous professional development.
    • Committed to maintaining high standards of health, safety, environmental compliance and engineering quality.
