How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Job Title: Welding & Precision Assembly Technician

    Location: Whitney

    Salary: £35,000 - £40,000

    Hours:  8am-4:40pm Mon – Thurs / 8am-1pm Fri

    Role Purpose

We are seeking a skilled, practical technician to manufacture and assemble high-quality cryogenic products. This is a hands-on role with a strong emphasis on precision welding, soldering, brazing and mechanical assembly. The successful candidate will produce neat, accurate and leak-tight assemblies from stainless steel, copper and other materials, working carefully to engineering drawings and defined quality standards.

Experience in TIG welding, soft soldering and silver brazing/hard soldering would be highly advantageous. However, we will also consider candidates with strong mechanical aptitude, excellent attention to detail and a genuine willingness to learn specialist cryogenic manufacturing techniques.

    Key Responsibilities

Manufacture and assemble nitrogen and helium transfer lines, vacuum components, pipework and other related cryogenic products.
Carry out high-quality TIG welding, particularly on thin-wall stainless-steel components and tube assemblies.
Perform accurate soft soldering and silver brazing/hard soldering on copper, brass, stainless steel and mixed-material assemblies.
Assemble small, delicate and close-tolerance components with a high level of care and precision.
Fit tubes, flanges, connectors, vacuum fittings and mechanical components in accordance with drawings and specifications.
Use jigs, fixtures, gauges and measuring equipment to maintain alignment and dimensional accuracy.
Carry out tube preparation, forming, bending and fitting where required.
Inspect welds, soldered joints and completed assemblies for workmanship, conformity and leaks.
Diagnose and rectify leaks, poor joints, misalignment and other manufacturing defects.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, bills of materials and manufacturing instructions.
Contribute to improvements in welding methods, assembly processes, tooling and product quality.
    Essential Skills and Experience

Practical experience in welding, soldering, brazing, precision assembly or mechanical fabrication.
Good hand skills and the ability to carry out detailed, controlled work.
Strong mechanical fitting and assembly capability.
Experience using workshop hand tools, power tools and measuring equipment.
Ability to read and work from engineering drawings.
Ability to work accurately with small components and close-tolerance assemblies.
A methodical approach to joint preparation, assembly and inspection.
Willingness to learn specialist cryogenic and vacuum manufacturing processes.
    Highly Desirable Skills

TIG welding of stainless steel, particularly thin-wall tube and precision components.
Soft soldering experience on copper and brass assemblies.
    Silver brazing or hard-soldering experience.
    Experience joining dissimilar metals.
Tube fitting, tube bending and pipework fabrication experience.
Experience with vacuum systems, cryogenic equipment, scientific instrumentation or high-vacuum components.
Experience working in a precision engineering, aerospace, scientific, medical or specialist manufacturing environment.
Comfortable working on both one-off and repeat production assemblies.
