How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

I work with a number of main contractors and developers across Leeds and the wider Yorkshire region who are consistently building out their commercial teams.

Requirements come up across residential and high-rise, extra care and retirement living, education, healthcare, industrial and logistics, and commercial. So whether your experience sits in one sector or spans several, its worth a conversation.

The type of role I recruit for

Overall commercial management of one or more construction schemes, typically covering:

Commercial support to site and project management teams
Monitoring and updating project costs - reviewing monthly financial forecasts against actual costs
Subcontractor procurement and management from inception through to completion
Valuation, certification and approval of subcontractor payments
Guidance to operational teams on cost estimation and contract requirements
Reporting directly to clients and senior management
Presenting valuation reports and cost estimates
    Tendering and negotiating contracts
Estimating target costs and budget prices
Preparing lump sum bids and compiling enquiry documents for competitive bidding on a favourable bid, preparing tender and contract documents including bills of quantities
Contributing to the training and development of Apprentice, Trainee and Assistant Quantity Surveyors

    What clients typically look for

HND in Quantity Surveying or equivalent - essential
Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent - desirable
Minimum 5 years working as a Quantity Surveyor with a good working knowledge of construction processes - essential
Experience across a range of contract forms (JCT, NEC or sector-specific equivalent)
Clear understanding of contractual terms and conditions, both main contract and subcontract
Proficient in the use of MS Office
    Valid UK driving licence
    Valid CSCS card

Packages vary between clients, but typically include a competitive salary, car or car allowance, annual bonus, generous holiday allowance, contributory pension scheme and life assurance.

Not actively on the market? Thats fine. A confidential conversation costs you nothing, and Ill be straight with you about whether Ive got anything worth your time.
