How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

I'm currently working with a well-established engineering and transport planning consultancy that provides infrastructure design and development planning advice across a broad range of residential, commercial and mixed-use developments throughout the UK.
Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint a Principal Engineer to join their Cardiff team. This is a key position within the business, offering the opportunity to take ownership of projects, support the development of junior engineers, and play an active role in client relationships and business development.

    The Role

You'll be involved in the delivery of a wide range of development infrastructure projects, providing technical input across:

    Highways and access design
    Drainage and infrastructure design
    Flood Risk Assessments
    Drainage Strategies
    Development planning support
    Client liaison and stakeholder engagement
Technical review and mentoring of junior engineers
This role offers genuine scope to influence projects from initial planning stages through to detailed design while working alongside experienced transport and infrastructure professionals.

    About You

To be considered, you'll ideally have:

A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
Chartered status or be working towards chartership
Strong experience delivering highways and drainage infrastructure schemes
Knowledge of UK development planning processes and infrastructure design standards
Experience preparing or reviewing Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategies
Excellent report writing and communication skills
Experience mentoring or overseeing junior engineers
Experience with industry-standard software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Site3D and drainage modelling packages would be advantageous.

    What's on Offer?

Opportunity to work on a varied portfolio of development projects
    Clear route for career progression
    Supportive and collaborative working environment
    Competitive salary and benefits package
Chance to play a significant role in the future growth of the business
If you're a Senior or Principal Engineer looking for your next challenge in Cardiff and would like to discuss the opportunity in confidence, I'd be happy to have a conversation.
