How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Site Engineer / Section Engineer – Major Infrastructure Project

    Location: Birmingham Area
    Rate: £450 per day Umbrella
    IR35 Status: Inside IR35
    Start Date: ASAP
    Duration: Until October (with potential extension through to the end of the year)

    CETO Talent are currently recruiting for experienced Site Engineers and Section Engineers to support a major infrastructure project in the Birmingham area.

    This is an urgent requirement for candidates with strong civil engineering backgrounds, particularly those with practical experience across roadworks, drainage, and earthworks. While experience working on major infrastructure projects such as HS2 or BBV would be advantageous, the key requirement is finding engineers who can confidently manage site activities and support the successful delivery of works.

    Site Engineer Responsibilities:

    * Managing day-to-day site activities and ensuring works are delivered safely and efficiently

    * Carrying out setting out duties and ensuring accuracy of site works

    * Updating machine control models

    * Preparing Task Briefing Sheets (TBS)

    * Coordinating material requirements and supporting material ordering

    * Maintaining accurate daily site diaries

    * Working closely with site teams to ensure project progress and quality standards are maintained

    Section Engineer Responsibilities:

    * Providing technical support and guidance to Site Engineers and apprentices

    * Managing daily site activities and supporting delivery programmes

    * Producing three-week look-ahead plans

    * Ordering materials based on site engineer requirements and quantities

    * Attending coordination meetings with project teams

    * Ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with project requirements

    Essential Requirements:

    * SMSTS certification is essential

    * Valid driving licence required

    * Ability to travel independently to site

    * Strong practical experience within civil engineering projects

    * Experience across roadworks, drainage, and earthworks

    * Ability to work effectively within a busy site environment

    Additional Information:

    * Standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm

    * Occasional weekend working may be required

    * Pool vehicles will be available for site use
