How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    An established and growing Health & Safety Consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior CDM Consultant / Principal Designer to join its expanding team.

    With over 25 years' experience delivering specialist health and safety services across the UK, the consultancy works with a diverse range of clients across sectors including commercial property, healthcare, residential, retail, education, industrial, rail and leisure.

    The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality CDM Consultancy services, acting as a trusted advisor to clients and project teams while managing a varied portfolio of construction projects.

    Most projects are based across Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham, with some further afield. This is a hybrid working role with an expectation of attending the Derby office approximately one day per week.

    The Role

    As a Senior CDM Consultant / Principal Designer, you will take ownership of a portfolio of projects, providing expert CDM advice and leading the delivery of Principal Designer services from pre-construction through to completion.

    You will work closely with clients, designers and contractors, ensuring compliance with CDM Regulations while providing practical, commercially focused solutions to manage risk and improve health and safety outcomes.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Acting as Principal Designer on a range of complex construction projects

    * Leading the delivery of CDM Consultancy services across multiple projects

    * Providing expert advice to clients, designers and contractors on CDM Regulations and wider construction health & safety matters

    * Reviewing design information and advising on risk management strategies

    * Preparing and reviewing Pre-Construction Information Packs, CDM Risk Registers, Construction Phase Plans and Health & Safety Files

    * Undertaking site inspections, audits and providing practical recommendations

    * Supporting clients and duty holders in meeting their statutory responsibilities

    * Managing project documentation and ensuring consistently high standards of service delivery

    * Developing and maintaining strong, long-term client relationships

    * Supporting continuous improvement and sharing technical knowledge across the consultancy

    Experience

    You'll ideally have:

    * Significant experience working as a CDM Consultant, Principal Designer or within a senior construction health & safety role

    * Proven experience independently managing CDM projects and client relationships

    * Strong knowledge of the CDM Regulations 2015 and wider health and safety legislation

    * Experience providing advice to clients, design teams and contractors

    * Excellent communication, influencing and report writing skills

    * Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects effectively

    * Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office

    Qualifications

    * NEBOSH qualification and/or a degree, HNC or HND in Construction, Health & Safety, Building Surveying, Engineering or a related discipline

    * Membership of IOSH or APS (or working towards professional membership)

    * A full UK driving licence
