How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Red Snapper Recruitment are recruiting for an Intelligence Development Officer for a specialist UK police unit that tackles organized vehicle crime, vehicle finance fraud, and freight theft. You will investigate crime and any other investigations at a level deemed appropriate in support of the organisation and National Policing objectives.


    Location: Coventry (hybrid)

    Contract: Until March 2027

    Salary: £17 per hour PAYE (UMB option available)

    Vetting: Must be eligible for SC and NPPV3 level vetting.


    Main Responsibilities

    • Conduct Intelligence and investigation work primarily in support of the organisations portfolios and Control Strategy.
    • Provide resilience to the organisations core business, investigating allegations of vehicle finance theft and fraud referred by Finance & Leasing Association members, ensuring IT applications are fully updated in accordance with force procedures.
    • Gather, develop and use intelligence and crime data effectively to support the organisations and National objectives.
    • Prepare and deliver at all levels high quality intelligence files and reports for submission to law enforcement agencies and evidence for criminal prosecution processes. Attendance at Court may be required.
    • Represent all Field Intelligence Officer functions including briefing, presentation, enforcement and prevention functions.
    • Have an excellent working knowledge of CPIA, Fraud Act 2006, Theft Act 1968, Data Protection principles, ECHR, RIPA, CHIS code of practise, NIM, covert tactics and ensure the principles are adhered to.
    • Post holder will be required to engage with Law Enforcement Agencies and discuss intelligence tactics at a high level so a well-founded background in this work is essential.
    • Maintain, utilise, expand and support Law Enforcement partners nationally and internationally where appropriate to facilitate the role”
    • Act as a single point of contact with the organisations stakeholder partners.
    • Contribute towards the identification of crime trends in order to develop innovative intelligence lead and proactive solutions using the organisations resources and negotiation of law enforcement support.
    • Work closely with the organisations consultants and Ports Officers to enable resilience and role support.
    • To give regular and effective service.


    Plus the following requirement if assigned to;

    Ports:

    • Support all areas of the organisation by understanding the shipping industry, be prepared to travel to ports, and support Ports Operations


    Person Specification

    Education/Qualifications

    Essential:

    • Educated to QCF level 2 (5 passes including passes in Maths and English) OR work experience deemed to have brought the role holder to a comparable level.


    Desirable:

    • Educated to QCF Level 3 or work experience at a higher level.


    Experience and Skills

    Essential:

    • Experience in evidence gathering and intelligence work due to the complex nature and responsibilities of the role.
    • An excellent working knowledge of criminal law and the criminal justice system, CPIA, RIPA, CHIS code of practise, covert intelligence and investigation.
    • Excellent and evidenced report writing and communication skills e.g. The production of clear, concise and accurate records, letters and reports as well as verbal delivery and presentation to diverse audiences.
    • To be computer/keyboard literate and a competent keyboard user.
    • To have an understanding of data protection issues in order to ensure that information is handled and filed correctly.


    Desirable:

    • A working knowledge of vehicle telematics
    • Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation / risk assessment
    • To have an understanding of vehicle or rural crime reduction


    Additional Requirements

    • Follow GDPR guidelines and Constabulary policies in relation to accessing and handling personal data.
    • A the organisations Intelligence Development Officer (IDO) could work within any investigator role within the organisations investigation and intelligence team with accountabilities to all portfolios as detailed by organisational priorities
    • There is a degree of physicality for the role with non-leading attendance at search warrants / offender interviews in a specialist intelligencer advisor capacity, bait vehicle work, identification of potential CHIS opportunities, ports operations, vehicle examination support, containerised freight inspection and exposure to the generic hazards of ports environments.
    • All role holders will need to undergo and maintain appropriate vetting in order to carry out the full duties of the role.
    • Whilst the post is located in Coventry, the post holder may be required to visit various locations during working hours and drive a police vehicle to undertake enquiries therefore the role holder must hold a current full driver's licence and be prepared to take and pass a Force driving course if required.
    • There may be occasions when the distance travelled requires the post holder to stay in overnight accommodation which will be provided.
    • Role holders should be aware that this role may require working occasional unsociable hours, for which the appropriate allowances will be paid.
