How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Role Purpose

    We are seeking an experienced Regulatory Lawyer to provide legal advice, advocacy and casework support within an in-house Fitness to Practise team.

    You will prepare and present complex professional regulation cases before statutory committees, appeal panels and, where appropriately qualified, the High Court. Working closely with operational colleagues and investigators, you will ensure cases are progressed efficiently, thoroughly and in line with the organisation’s statutory responsibilities.

    The role will also provide practical legal advice throughout the Fitness to Practise process, support the development of investigation teams and contribute to continuous improvement across the wider regulatory function.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Prepare and present Fitness to Practise and registration appeal cases before committees and panels, and before the High Court where applicable.
    • Draft high-quality legal documentation, including statements of facts, allegations, skeleton arguments, interim order applications and court applications.
    • Advise on case strategy, evidence, risk, proportionality and the need for interim orders.
    • Support casework teams to assess, investigate and progress concerns efficiently and effectively.
    • Provide clear legal advice, guidance and training to investigators and casework colleagues.
    • Manage a varied and high-volume caseload, ensuring cases meet required timescales and quality standards.
    • Communicate effectively with registrants, legal representatives, witnesses, external partners and internal stakeholders.
    • Keep up to date with relevant legislation, regulatory policy, procedural rules and case law.
    • Identify learning from hearings and legal developments, helping to improve processes, guidance and decision-making.
    • Participate in relevant projects and working groups across the regulatory operations function.

    Essential Skills, Experience and Qualifications

    • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive with a current practising certificate and at least three years’ PQE.
    • Strong experience within professional regulation, Fitness to Practise, disciplinary, investigations or a comparable legal environment.
    • Experience preparing and presenting cases to hearings, panels or tribunals.
    • Confident managing investigations and complex casework to demanding deadlines.
    • Excellent understanding of legal principles, evidence, risk and procedural fairness.
    • Ability to interpret and apply legislation, rules and policy accurately.
    • Strong written advocacy and drafting skills.
    • Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both legally qualified and non-legal colleagues.
    • Comfortable managing competing priorities in a high-volume environment.
    • Competent using case management systems and Microsoft Office.
