How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Conrad Consulting are looking for an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join a well-established and growing building services contractor. We're looking for someone with a strong background in mechanical estimating who can confidently manage tenders from initial enquiry through to submission and play a key role in the continued success of the business.

    Based in the Central Belt of Scotland, the office offers an excellent location with convenient access from both Edinburgh and Glasgow, making it an ideal base for candidates across the region.

    The Role of the Mechanical Estimator:

    As a Senior Mechanical Estimator, you will take ownership of mechanical estimating activities across a diverse portfolio of commercial, industrial, healthcare, education, residential, and public sector projects. You'll work closely with clients, consultants, suppliers, and the wider project team to produce accurate, competitive, and commercially sound tenders.

    Key Responsibilities of the Mechanical Estimator:

    Prepare detailed and accurate mechanical estimates and tender submissions.

    Review drawings, specifications, and tender documentation.

    Complete take-offs and develop comprehensive cost plans.

    Source and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.

    Identify value engineering opportunities and alternative solutions.

    Attend site visits, client meetings, and tender interviews where required.

    Support business development by building and maintaining strong client relationships.

    Assist in mentoring junior estimating staff where appropriate.

    Ensure successful handover of secured projects to the delivery team.

    Requirements of the Mechanical Estimator:

    Proven experience as a Mechanical Estimator within the M&E or Building Services sector.

    Strong technical knowledge of mechanical building services installations.

    Ability to manage multiple tenders and work to tight deadlines.

    Excellent commercial awareness and attention to detail.

    Experience interpreting technical drawings and specifications.

    Strong communication and negotiation skills.

    Estimating software experience is advantageous.

    A proactive, organised, and solutions-focused approach.
