How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job Title: Refuse Vehicle Mechanic / Fitter

    Location: Ridham Dock Road, Sittingbourne, Kent, ME9 8SR

    Salary: Starting from £20.40 per hour, depending on experience

    Job Type: Permanent, Full time

    Working Hours: 50 hours per week

    About the role:

    We are seeking a Refuse Vehicle Mechanic with proven and demonstrable experience within the waste industry to join our team.

    The purpose of the role is to achieve and persistently maintain high standards of workmanship and competence in performing tasks associated with preventative maintenance checks and general maintenance, whilst also maintaining high standards of internal and external communications and relationships.

    Responsibilities:

    Complete daily vehicle checks and fill out the Vehicle Defect sheet at the start and
    Carry out inspections, diagnosing any faults and defects on fleet vehicles, trailers, related equipment and components. This includes testing, dismantling, overhauling, repairing, and re-assembling as required
    Participate in supporting operatives and employees in preventative maintenance checks, services and general maintenance/repairs of fleet vehicles, trailers, related equipment and components
    Perform road tests
    Perform emergency call out repairs as required
    Competently operate electronic testing equipment and other hand tools
    Maintain repair and service records on each vehicle
    Complete all necessary paperwork accurately and in a timely manner, as required, and in line with Countrystyle's policies and procedures.
    Ensure that all work done by the team is carried in line with the safe systems of work and that appropriate PPE and safety equipment is used at all times
    Comply with all Health, Safety, HR and Environmental policies and procedures
    Staff have a duty to take care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions at work
    Staff must co-operate, report unsafe conditions and comply with the company management systems and safe systems of work as well as co-workers to help everyone meet their legal requirementsAbout you:
