Purpose of the Role
As a Learner Engagement Officer (LEO), you will be the first point of contact for many of our learners, providing high-quality Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) throughout their learning journey.
You will engage with individuals seeking employment or career progression, helping them identify suitable training opportunities, overcome barriers to learning and progress into employment or further education. You will build strong relationships with referral partners, employers and local organisations, ensuring learners receive impartial advice and support that is tailored to their individual goals.
This is a varied role that combines learner engagement, careers guidance, partnership working, employer liaison and learner support.
Key Responsibilities
Learner Engagement
Promote Momentum Training’s funded courses across Sheffield and South Yorkshire.
Build and maintain a pipeline of prospective learners.
Deliver presentations and information sessions to referral partners and community groups.
Attend recruitment events, jobs fairs and community engagement activities.
Engage with Jobcentre Plus and other referral organisations to generate learner referrals.
Information, Advice & Guidance (IAG)
Deliver impartial Information, Advice and Guidance to prospective learners.
Complete high-quality learner assessments to identify career aspirations, previous experience and barriers to employment.
Ensure learners are enrolled onto programmes that best meet their needs and career goals.
Discuss realistic progression opportunities linked to local labour market demand.
Provide labour market information to help learners make informed career decisions.
Signpost learners to alternative providers or specialist services where appropriate.
Maintain clear and accurate records of all IAG conversations.
Learner Support
Support learners from initial enquiry through to programme completion.
Maintain regular contact with learners to encourage attendance, achievement and progression.
Identify barriers such as transport, childcare, financial hardship, wellbeing or additional learning needs.
Refer learners to internal or external support services where appropriate.
Provide ongoing encouragement and motivation throughout the learner journey.
Employer & Partnership Engagement
Build relationships with employers to identify vacancies and progression opportunities.
Work collaboratively with the Business Development Team to match learners with employment opportunities.
Develop relationships with community organisations, housing providers, charities and employability organisations.
Promote Momentum Training within the local community.
Administration & Compliance
Complete learner enrolment documentation accurately and compliantly.
Carry out Prior Learning Reviews before learners begin their programme.
Maintain learner records using company systems.
Ensure all documentation meets funding and compliance requirements.
Maintain GDPR and confidentiality standards at all times.

Essential Skills & Experience
Experience working within employability, recruitment, training, education or a customer-focused environment.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to build strong relationships with learners, employers and external partners.
Strong organisational and time management skills.
Ability to motivate and inspire others.
Competent using Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to manage a varied workload and work independently.
Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle.
Desirable Skills & Experience
Experience providing Information, Advice and Guidance.
Level 2 Information, Advice and Guidance qualification (or willingness to work towards).
Experience of government-funded training programmes.
Knowledge of Skills Bootcamps, Adult Skills Fund or employability programmes.
Understanding of the South Yorkshire labour market.
Existing relationships with Jobcentre Plus, employers or community organisations.
