How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

    Job Title

    Contract Supervisor

    Reports To

    Contract Manager

    Purpose of the Role

    The Contract Supervisor is responsible for leading a team of engineers and overseeing the delivery of maintenance services across designated sites to optimise operational performance.

    The role is responsible for ensuring that all Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contractual obligations, statutory requirements, service level agreements (SLAs), and company procedures.

    The Contract Supervisor provides technical leadership, supports compliance, manages engineering resources and subcontractors, and ensures the highest standards of health, safety, and customer service are maintained.

    Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

    Maintenance Management

    Supervise all Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with maintenance schedules on SimPRO and/or the client's maintenance platform.

    Allocate planned and reactive maintenance tasks to site-based and mobile engineers.

    Liaise with and manage specialist subcontractors to ensure works are completed safely, on time and to the required standard.

    Escalate any issues that may impact completion of statutory maintenance or achievement of SLA response times to the Contract Manager.

    Ensure equipment that cannot safely remain in operation is isolated and taken out of service where statutory maintenance cannot be completed.

    Ensure all engineer instruction sets within SimPRO are fully completed, with every task signed off and supported by photographic evidence where required.

    Ensure subcontractor service reports are uploaded to SimPRO and discuss any remedial works with the Contract Manager, including proposed completion timescales.

    Review daily reactive maintenance updates provided by Contract Support Administrators and assist with resource planning where additional engineering support is required.

    Health, Safety and Compliance

    Ensure engineers and subcontractors comply with:

    Health and Safety at Work Act 1974

    Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999

    Electricity at Work Regulations 1989

    Company and client Health & Safety procedures.

    Ensure all personnel comply with client site rules and House Rules at all times.

    Maintain site-specific Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), reviewing them at least every six months.

    Obtain subcontractor RAMS and ensure documentation is submitted for Health & Safety approval.

    Ensure permits to work and access permits are completed with suitable RAMS prior to works commencing.

    Ensure permits for planned weekend works are submitted to QSHE at least 48 hours before commencement.

    Report hazards immediately and implement measures to protect personnel and equipment.

    Isolate plant and equipment where necessary and issue permits to work.

    Confirm electrical isolation, dead testing and de-pressurisation of pressure systems before works commence.

    Engineering & Technical Responsibilities

    Maintain comprehensive knowledge of all plant and building services under the contract.

    Carry out visual inspections of plant rooms and Building Management Systems (BMS), reporting alarms or faults.

    Review plant operating hours and identify opportunities for energy efficiency improvements.

    Conduct system surveys and recommend improvements to enhance operational efficiency and environmental performance.

    Maintain accurate plant drawings and engineering documentation.

    Conduct regular inspections of plant rooms, substations and switch rooms to identify:

    Building defects

    Fire hazards

    Housekeeping issues

    Equipment faults

    Safety concerns

    Produce technical investigation reports following plant failures or emergency incidents, including lessons learned and corrective actions.

    Staff Management

    Lead, supervise and support engineering teams.

    Allocate work effectively to maximise operational performance.

    Report staff sickness and annual leave requirements to the Contract Manager.

    Ensure appropriate engineering cover is maintained at all times.

    Deliver induction training for new engineering employees.

    Conduct weekly Toolbox Talks covering:

    Health & Safety

    Technical procedures

    Emergency procedures

    Communication

    Electrical switching procedures

    Support the development of prospective Authorised Persons.

    Identify knowledge gaps within the engineering team and recommend additional training.

    Ensure all engineering personnel wear the approved company uniform and maintain a professional appearance.

    Client & Contract Management

    Maintain effective communication with client representatives and occupiers.

    Support the Contract Manager in producing the monthly client report.

    Ensure maintenance records, logbooks and compliance documentation remain fully up to date.

    Escalate any risks to critical plant or building services immediately.

    Assist in maintaining contractual compliance and service delivery standards.

    Emergency Response

    During emergency situations, the Contract Supervisor will:

    Protect the safety of all personnel.

    Minimise damage to plant, equipment and property.

    Direct engineering teams to respond appropriately according to SLA priorities.

    Ensure continuity of essential building services.

    General Responsibilities

    Undertake any additional duties reasonably requested by the Contract Manager.

    Promote professionalism, teamwork and excellent customer service across the engineering team.

    Encourage effective communication between engineering personnel and client representatives.

    Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    Essential

    City & Guilds Level II or III (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering (role dependent).

    City & Guilds Level II or III (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering (role dependent).

    18th Edition Wiring Regulations.

    Previous Building Services / Mechanical & Electrical maintenance experience.

    Good working knowledge of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.

    Experience of:

    Building Management Systems (BMS)

    Generator systems

    Controls

    Lighting systems

    Plumbing

    Sanitary systems

    Drainage systems

    Low Pressure Hot Water (LPHW)

    Pressurisation systems

    Ventilation systems

    ACOP L8

    Cooling tower systems.

    Excellent organisational skills.

    Strong leadership and people management skills.

    Excellent communication skills.

    Customer-focused approach.

    Flexible and proactive attitude.

    Full UK Driving Licence.

    Desirable

    City & Guilds BS2391 Level 3 Inspection & Testing (role dependent).

    IOSH Working Safely.

    PASMA.

    IPAF (1b, 3a & 3b).

    Unvented Hot Water Systems qualification.

    High Voltage (HV) training and certification.

    Energy and Environmental Management knowledge.
