How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Highway Supervisor - Civil Engineering

    Location: Cambridge, surrounding areas
    Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
    Salary: Competitive (depending on experience)

    We are a well-established civil engineering contractor delivering high-quality highway and infrastructure projects across the UK. Due to continued growth, we are looking to recruit an experienced Highway Supervisor to join our team.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual with a strong background in highways and civil engineering to play a key role in delivering projects safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.

    The Role

    As a Highway Supervisor, you will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of site operations, ensuring works are completed safely, on programme, and in accordance with project specifications.

    Key Responsibilities

    Supervise site teams, subcontractors and suppliers.
    Plan and coordinate daily site activities.
    Ensure all work is carried out in line with health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
    Carry out site inspections, toolbox talks and safety briefings.
    Monitor project progress and report to the Site Manager/Contracts Manager.
    Ensure labour, plant and materials are used efficiently.
    Maintain accurate site records and documentation.
    Liaise with clients, local authorities and other stakeholders as required.
    Ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.

    About You

    You will have:

    Previous experience supervising highway or civil engineering projects.
    Strong knowledge of highway construction, drainage, kerbing, surfacing and associated works.
    Excellent leadership, organisational and communication skills.
    Ability to read and interpret construction drawings.
    A proactive approach to problem solving.
    Full UK Driving Licence.

    Essential Qualifications

    SSSTS or SMSTS
    CSCS Supervisor or Manager Card

    Desirable Qualifications

    NRSWA Supervisor
    First Aid at Work
    Temporary Traffic Management knowledge
