How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

HV AP Shift Leader – Critical Data Centre

    Location: Slough
Salary: £57,000 per annum plus overtime
Shift Pattern: Continental Days and Nights
    Employment Type: Permanent

Nexus Careers Group is recruiting an experienced HV Authorised Person Shift Leader to join the engineering team at a highly critical data centre facility in Slough.

This is an excellent opportunity for an electrically biased critical-facilities engineer who is ready to lead a continental shift team while remaining technically involved in the operation and maintenance of the site.

The position offers a basic salary of £57,000 per annum, together with extensive overtime opportunities and the potential to significantly increase your overall earnings.

    The Role

You will be responsible for leading the engineering team during your shift and ensuring the facility’s critical electrical, mechanical and cooling infrastructure remains safe, available and fully operational.

As an HV Authorised Person, you will oversee switching operations, safe systems of work and technical activities involving the site’s HV and LV electrical infrastructure.

You will also coordinate planned and reactive maintenance, support incident response and act as the primary engineering escalation point during your shift.

    Key Responsibilities

    *

Lead, support and coordinate the site engineering team throughout each shift.

    *

Act as an HV Authorised Person and manage electrical switching activities.

    *

Prepare, review and implement switching schedules and safety documentation.

    *

Issue and cancel permits, sanctions for test and associated electrical safety documents.

    *

Coordinate planned maintenance, reactive repairs and specialist contractor activity.

    *

Monitor critical plant and respond to alarms, faults and equipment failures.

    *

Lead technical fault-finding and support the safe restoration of critical services.

    *

Complete detailed shift handovers, logbooks, reports and maintenance records.

    *

Ensure all work complies with site procedures, health and safety requirements and client standards.

    *

Support emergency operating procedures and incident-management activities.

    Candidate Requirements

    *

Current or previous experience working as an HV Authorised Person.

    *

Experience within a data centre or another critical environment, such as banking, healthcare, defence, pharmaceutical or telecommunications.

    *

Strong knowledge of HV and LV electrical distribution, switchgear, transformers, generators and UPS systems.

    *

Previous experience as a Shift Leader, Senior Shift Engineer or Lead Engineer.

    *

Good understanding of critical cooling systems, BMS controls and associated mechanical plant.

    *

Recognised electrical qualifications, ideally including the 18th Edition.

    *

Confident working with permits, risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.

    *

Able to work continental shifts covering both days and nights.

    Shift Pattern

The role operates on a continental rota covering days, nights, weekends and public holidays where they fall within the scheduled shift pattern.

The rota provides regular blocks of rest days, while additional overtime is frequently available for engineers who wish to increase their annual earnings.

    Package

The successful candidate will receive a basic salary of £57,000 per annum, extensive overtime opportunities, ongoing technical training and the chance to develop within the rapidly growing critical-facilities and data-centre sector.

Additional company benefits will be discussed during the recruitment process.

    Application

This opportunity would suit an experienced HV Authorised Person, Senior Shift Engineer or existing Shift Leader looking to join a technically advanced and highly critical data centre environment.

All applications will be treated confidentially by Nexus Careers Group.
