How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Freelance Site Engineer / Section Engineer – HS2

    Location: Buckingham (MK18), Brackley (NN13), Chipping Warden (OX17)
    Contract: Freelance
    Project: HS2
    Rate: Competitive Day Rates
    Duration: Long-term opportunities

    We're currently recruiting experienced Freelance Site Engineers and Section Engineers to join one of the UK's largest infrastructure projects, HS2.

    This is an excellent opportunity to secure long-term freelance work on a nationally significant project, with competitive day rates, a strong pipeline of work, and the opportunity to work across a variety of major civil engineering packages.

    The Role

    As a Site Engineer or Section Engineer, you'll play a key role in delivering complex civil engineering works safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards. Opportunities are available across multiple HS2 sites including:

    Buckingham (MK18)
    Brackley (NN13)
    Chipping Warden (OX17)

    Projects include a range of major infrastructure works including highways, structures, earthworks and drainage.

    We're Looking For

    We're keen to speak with engineers who have experience in one or more of the following:

    Structures
    Highways
    Earthworks
    Drainage (advantageous)

    Applicants should have previous experience working on major civil engineering or infrastructure projects and be confident in delivering engineering activities on site.

    Responsibilities
    Setting out and surveying works.
    Managing engineering activities on site.
    Interpreting drawings and technical specifications.
    Ensuring works are delivered safely, accurately and to programme.
    Producing and maintaining site records and QA documentation.
    Supporting subcontractors and site teams.
    Managing temporary works, permits and inspections where required.
    Liaising with Site Agents, Project Managers and wider delivery teams.
    Maintaining high quality and health & safety standards throughout the project.
    Requirements
    Previous experience as a Site Engineer or Section Engineer.
    Civil Engineering background.
    Experience in Structures, Highways and/or Earthworks is essential depending on the project.
    Experience on major infrastructure projects is highly desirable.
    CSCS card.
    Full UK driving licence preferred.
