How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Teaching Assistant

    Pay Scale: £100 - £120 per day

    Contract: Supply / temporary

    Start Date: 04 September 2026

    Career Teachers is working with secondary schools in the Harrogate area to recruit reliable and enthusiastic Teaching Assistants for supply and temporary roles from September 2026. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people and helping them access learning in a positive, inclusive school environment.

    About the role:

    As a Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils across the secondary curriculum, working under the direction of teaching staff to help learners stay engaged, confident and on task. You may support pupils in class, work with individuals or small groups, assist with learning activities and help maintain a calm and purposeful classroom environment.

    About You:

    You will be patient, proactive and professional, with strong communication skills and a genuine interest in supporting secondary-aged pupils. You will be confident working as part of a school team, able to follow instructions, adapt quickly to different classrooms and support pupils with a range of learning needs.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Support pupils in lessons across the secondary curriculum
    Work with individuals, small groups or whole classes under the direction of teaching staff
    Help pupils understand tasks, stay focused and engage positively with learning
    Support pupils with additional learning needs, where required
    Assist with preparing resources and maintaining a tidy, safe learning environment
    Promote positive behaviour and encourage pupils to follow school expectations
    Provide feedback to teachers on pupil progress, engagement or concerns
    Support pupils during transitions, break times or wider school activities when needed
    Follow school procedures for safeguarding, behaviour, attendance and health and safetyEssential requirements:

    Experience working with children or young people in a school, care, youth work, coaching, tutoring or similar setting
    A genuine interest in supporting secondary-aged pupils with their learning and development
    Good communication, organisation and teamwork skills
    Ability to follow instructions and work effectively under the direction of teaching staff
    A calm, patient and flexible approach to supporting pupils
    Confidence adapting to different classrooms, routines and school environments
    Eligibility to work in the UK and willingness to complete safeguarding checksDesirable experience:

    Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or classroom support worker
    Experience supporting pupils with SEND, SEMH, EAL or additional learning needs
    A Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in supporting teaching and learning, childcare or education
    Experience working in secondary schools across Key Stages 3 and 4Our benefits:
