How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    We are delighted to be supporting with an multidisciplined, multi-office property consultancy in its search for an experienced structural engineer to join it’s regional office in the Plymouth area.

    This office has an established group of engineers and consultants of various disciplines. This person will be work closely with other staff to achieve innovative, sustainable and cost-efficient buildings.

    Structures come from a variety of sectors include, education, aerospace, commercial, residential and manufacturing. This office typically services clients and developments from across the midlands meaning you will have the opportunity to have a direct impact on your local community. 

    Responsibilities include:

    Contribute to outline, scheme and detailed engineering designs across a range of projects, as appropriate.
    Undertake detailed design calculations and develop proficiency in the latest design software.
    Prepare design programmes for the delivery of project outputs.
    Produce project reports, specifications and general correspondence as required.
    Carry out site surveys and inspections, producing clear, logically structured reports with appropriate recommendations.
    Review calculations, drawings, specifications, reports and other project deliverables to ensure they meet the required quality standards before issue.
    Liaise with internal and external members of the design and construction teams, representing the engineering team professionally.
    Visit sites during the construction phase to monitor progress and provide technical advice to contractors.
    Comply with Ridge document management and quality assurance procedures.
    Support colleagues across the wider team and other disciplines when required, particularly to help meet project deadlines.
    Keey requirements:

    A BEng (Hons) degree in Civil or Structural Engineering at 2:1 or above, or a higher qualification such as an MEng (Hons) or MSc.
    A sound foundation of engineering and/or site-based work experience.
    A good fundamental understanding of relevant regulatory requirements, including the Eurocodes.
    Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
    A commitment to continuing professional development and actively working towards a recognised professional qualification.
    A current UK driving licence.
    Experience using AutoCAD and Revit would be desirable.
