How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Assistant Quantity Surveyor / Estimator
    Borehamwood, Hertfordshire
    £32,000 – £40,000 DOE + Benefits

    The Opportunity
Are you an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Estimator with one or two years’ experience looking for broader commercial responsibility and genuine progression?

A growing property maintenance contractor is looking for an ambitious Assistant QS to join its Borehamwood team. Working directly with a Director and alongside an experienced Contracts Manager, you’ll gain hands-on exposure to estimating, cost control, subcontractor accounts, variations, invoicing and commercial reporting.

This is a varied role where you can see each job through from initial enquiry and quotation to final cost review. As the division continues to expand, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your commercial knowledge, take ownership of your work and progress into a more senior position.

    The Company
The business delivers reactive repairs and planned property maintenance works for an established client base. Continued growth has created the need for additional commercial support to help manage increasing quotation volumes, job costs and reporting requirements.

The company offers a friendly, social working environment where different departments work closely together. You’ll be joining a supportive team that values accuracy, collaboration and professional development.

    Your Role
This is not a traditional major-project construction QS position. Instead, you’ll work across a busy portfolio of shorter-duration reactive and planned maintenance jobs, giving you variety and exposure to a high volume of commercial activity.

    Your responsibilities will include:

Preparing quotes and estimates covering labour, materials and subcontractor costs
Attending occasional site visits to gather information for accurate pricing
Maintaining the quotation pipeline and monitoring conversion rates
Tracking live job costs against quoted values and identifying potential overspends
Collating final labour, material and subcontractor costs
Recording and managing variations to protect project margins
Processing subcontractor quotations, orders and payment applications
Supporting material procurement and negotiating value for money
Assisting with deposit invoices, final accounts and credit-control information
Contributing to weekly turnover, project P&L and management reports
Using commercial and job-management systems such as Procore, PayApps or similar You’ll work closely with operational and finance colleagues, giving you a rounded understanding of how a successful property maintenance division is commercially managed.

    What We’re Looking For
This opportunity would suit an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, Junior Quantity Surveyor or Assistant Estimator with around one to two years’ experience.

You may currently work for a property maintenance company, refurbishment contractor, facilities management provider, subcontractor or general construction business.

    You’ll ideally have:

Experience producing quotations, estimates or cost information
An understanding of labour, material and subcontractor pricing
Exposure to cost tracking, variations, procurement or subcontractor accounts
Strong numerical, organisational and Excel skills
    Excellent attention to detail
A proactive attitude and willingness to learn
The confidence to communicate with trades, suppliers, subcontractors and senior management Property maintenance experience would be helpful but is not essential. The business is more interested in finding someone with solid commercial foundations, the right attitude and the ambition to develop.

    Salary and Benefits
    £32,000 – £40,000, depending on experience
20 days’ holiday plus Bank Holidays
Workplace pension with a 3% employer contribution
    Salary-sacrifice pension option
Business mileage reimbursed at the statutory rate
Complimentary breakfast and lunch prepared by an in-house chef
Friday evening drinks from the company bar
Pool table, outdoor seating, BBQ and TV facilities
Regular social events, charity initiatives and wellbeing activities
Christmas and New Year office closure
Direct access to senior leadership and genuine career progression If you’re an Assistant QS or Estimator looking for a varied commercial role where you can develop quickly and become an important part of a growing division, apply today.
