How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Pay Rate: £20–£30 per hour, dependent on experience
Contract Type: Part-time / Flexible hours

Can you turn challenging A Level topics into clear, manageable learning steps?

Are you confident delivering personalised one-to-one tuition that responds to each student’s individual needs?

Would you like a flexible tutoring role where you can help students build confidence and achieve their academic goals?

TeacherActive is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Tutor to provide personalised one-to-one A Level tuition to students in the Lewisham area. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced tutor or qualified teacher who is passionate about supporting young people and helping them make meaningful academic progress.

The role offers flexible, part-time hours and is ideal for someone who can deliver engaging, focused tuition tailored to each student's subject knowledge, learning style and individual targets. You will support students in strengthening their understanding of A Level content, improving their confidence and developing the skills needed to succeed in their studies.

As a Tutor, you will plan and deliver structured one-to-one sessions that address gaps in knowledge, reinforce key concepts and prepare students for assessments and examinations. You will adapt your teaching approach to suit the learner, using a variety of strategies and resources to make complex topics more accessible and engaging.

You will monitor the student's progress, provide constructive feedback and communicate effectively with relevant professionals where required. The ideal candidate will be patient, reliable and able to build positive working relationships with students, including those who may have special educational needs or medical needs.

    The successful Tutor will have:

Qualified Teacher Status or at least one year of tutoring or teaching experience

Previous experience supporting students at A Level

Strong subject knowledge within their specialist area

The ability to plan and deliver personalised one-to-one tuition

    Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

A flexible and adaptable approach to different learning styles

Experience supporting students with SEND or medical needs is desirable

An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one through TeacherActive

In return for the above, you can expect to receive:

Flexible part-time hours to suit your availability

Competitive pay of £20–£30 per hour, dependent on experience

A dedicated team of consultants to guide and support you throughout the onboarding process

Access to CPD courses and certificates through the My-Progression channel

The opportunity to make a direct and positive impact on a student's academic development

TeacherActive Referral Scheme – Receive up to £100 when you refer a friend. Terms and Conditions apply

Our staff are paid on a PAYE basis, giving you peace of mind that the correct level of Tax and National Insurance is being paid, with no unexpected administration charges deducted from your hard-earned pay.
