How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Senior / Principal Civil Engineer

    Location: Birmingham

    Due to continued growth and an expanding portfolio of exciting projects, we're looking for an experienced Senior or Principal Civil Engineer to join a busy Civil Engineering team in Birmingham.

    This is an outstanding opportunity for an ambitious engineer looking to take the next step in their career, leading projects from concept through to completion while mentoring others and helping shape the future of their Civil Engineering team.

    The Role

    You'll play a key role in delivering high-quality infrastructure and drainage solutions across a diverse range of developments, working closely with clients, architects and multidisciplinary design teams.

    Depending on your experience, you'll also provide technical leadership, manage project delivery and contribute to the ongoing development of our Civil Engineering capability.

    Key Responsibilities

    Lead the civil engineering design and delivery of projects from feasibility through to construction.
    Produce and review drainage, highways and infrastructure designs using industry-standard software.
    Prepare technical reports, calculations and design information.
    Manage project programmes, budgets and client relationships.
    Coordinate with architects, structural engineers and external stakeholders.
    Attend client and design team meetings, providing practical engineering advice.
    Mentor and develop junior engineers and technicians.
    Support business development activities and contribute to winning new work.
    Ensure projects are delivered to the highest technical and quality standards.

    About You

    We're looking for someone who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges and takes pride in delivering practical, innovative solutions.

    You'll ideally have:

    A degree in Civil Engineering.
    Chartered (CEng) or Incorporated (IEng) status, or be working towards professional accreditation.
    Significant UK consultancy experience in infrastructure and drainage design.
    Strong knowledge of highways, drainage and development infrastructure.
    Experience using Civil 3D, MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage and AutoCAD.
    Excellent understanding of UK design standards, SuDS and relevant approval processes.
    Strong communication and client-facing skills.
    The ability to lead projects and inspire those around you.
