How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Contract Type: Freelance / Contract

Working Hours: Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week

    About the Role

We are seeking a versatile, experienced Site Engineer to join the delivery team on the major A9 Tomatin to Moy dual carriageway upgrade.

Reporting directly to the Section Engineer, you will play a key role in executing engineering control, quality control, field health & safety, and daily operations across heavy civil works. You will work alongside key project stakeholders, including Transport Scotland and Mott MacDonald, on a site delivering 10 km of new dual carriageway, side roads, major concrete structures, and extensive drainage infrastructure.

    Key Responsibilities

Engineering Control & Surveying: Execute precise setting out from primary control provided on-site using standard survey equipment (level & total station/theodolite). Provide detailed setting-out sketches and ensure all survey tools are maintained.
Quality Assurance: Produce accurate as-built drawings, complete Quality Check Sheets, and maintain meticulous daily records and diaries. Ensure works comply with construction tolerances, ACP, and contract specifications.
Site Operations & Concrete Works: Oversee works involving reinforced concrete structures, formwork, falsework, and concrete testing. Interpret reinforcement and structural drawings with accuracy.
Safety & Environment: Actively manage Permits to Work, complete Field Control Sheets, conduct safety briefings, perform field inspections, and report hazards.
Productivity & Commercial Support: Track daily material usage against theoretical estimates, conduct accurate material take-offs, and monitor weekly progress against target programs. Identify and flag scope changes/additional works.

    Skills & Experience:

Strong, well-rounded background as a Civil Engineering Site Engineer on heavy civil projects (structures, drainage, earthworks, roadworks).
Proficient in basic setting-out techniques using levels and theodolites/total stations.
Practical experience working with Reinforced Concrete (RC) structures, formwork, and falsework.
Good understanding of standard contract documents, specifications, and permit systems.
Strong capability in material scheduling, take-offs, and tracking project KPIs.

    Logistics & Location:

Commute / Location: Candidates must be based in (or willing to relocate/commute to) the Highlands region (e.g., Inverness or Aviemore). (Note: Accommodation/travel allowance is not standard, but lodge allowances may be considered for strong candidates).
