Contract: Permanent – Part-Time or Full-Time
The Opportunity
An excellent opportunity for an experienced Payroll Senior to join a busy payroll bureau, managing your own portfolio of clients while supporting the wider payroll team. This role combines hands-on payroll processing with mentoring junior colleagues, making it ideal for someone looking to take the next step in their payroll career.
You'll be responsible for delivering accurate end-to-end payroll services, maintaining strong client relationships, and acting as a technical point of contact for payroll legislation and system queries.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage end-to-end payroll processing for your own portfolio of clients.
* Ensure payrolls are completed accurately, compliantly and within agreed deadlines.
* Process pensions, statutory payments, Auto Enrolment and year-end payroll requirements.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, HMRC and third-party providers.
* Act as a first point of contact for payroll queries from clients and colleagues.
* Support and mentor junior payroll team members through coaching, training and peer reviews.
* Carry out payroll quality checks and assist with reviewing colleagues' work.
* Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes and maintain accurate payroll documentation.
* Produce payroll reports and support ad-hoc payroll projects where required.
* Keep up to date with payroll legislation and share knowledge across the wider team.
What They're Looking For
* Minimum of 2 years' end-to-end UK payroll experience, ideally within a payroll bureau or accountancy practice.
* Experience using STAR payroll software is highly desirable.
* Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, RTI, statutory payments, pensions and Auto Enrolment.
* Ability to manually calculate payroll when required.
* Experience managing your own client portfolio and delivering excellent customer service.
* Previous mentoring or coaching experience would be advantageous.
* Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
* Strong communication skills and a proactive, team-focused approach.
* CIPP qualification (or working towards it) would be beneficial.
