How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Class 2 Driver

    Salary – £15.13 per hour
    Hours – 40 hours per week, 7am to 3:45pm. Tasks and finish times arranged by the depot but not contractual.
    Location – East Lothian, EH21 8PZ

    As a Class 2 Driver at FCC Environment, you will support waste and recycling collection services in East Lothian. You will be responsible for driving up to 12-tonne vehicles and loading collections of recycling materials such as food waste, glass, plastics, paper, and cards. This is a practical role, involving assisting with loading the vehicle as part of the daily collection rounds. You’ll also play a key role in maintaining depot standards and ensuring all vehicle and safety procedures are followed.

    This is a full-time position, working five days per week on a temporary contract for six months, with the potential to become permanent should a suitable vacancy arise.

    What will you be doing?

    - Driving a refuse/recycling vehicle
    - Assisting with loading the vehicle as part of the daily collection rounds
    - Reporting any accidents, near-misses, dangerous occurrences or dangerous conditions to line management
    - Overseeing the vehicle at the council tipping points, ensuring the crews follow laid-down health and safety processes
    - Managing your designated vehicle and carrying out necessary vehicle checks
    - Being in charge of all paperwork and reporting all incidents on the rounds
    - Overseeing a crew of up to two loaders per vehicle only

    What are we looking for?

    - A valid Cat C licence
    - Valid digital tachograph card and driver CPC (minimum 35 hours completed)
    - Reliable with strong team leadership
    - Experience in waste collection is desirable but not essential – full training will be provided
    - Local area knowledge is advantageous
    - Committed to health and safety best practices

    Please note, this role will involve manual handling.
