How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    The Company

We are partnering with a leading UK main contractor with a turnover exceeding £700 million and a strong national presence. Over the past 25 years, the business has built long-standing client relationships, resulting in a substantial secured order book and a strong pipeline of projects nationwide.

This opportunity sits within a well-established business unit operating across London and the South, delivering a wide range of refurbishment, remediation, retrofit, and building safety projects across both the public and private sectors. Their client base includes local authorities and housing associations, with projects spanning residential, student accommodation, and regeneration schemes.

The business is led by a highly experienced senior leadership team with a proven track record of delivering complex, high-quality projects.

    The Role

Our client is seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their growing commercial team. Based on a hybrid working arrangement, the successful candidate will split their time between the Hertfordshire office, project sites and home working while supporting the delivery of planned works contracts.

Reporting directly to a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will gain exposure to all aspects of commercial management, assisting with valuations, subcontractor management, commercial administration and cost control. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor looking to develop their skills within a structured and supportive commercial team.

Roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    * Assist with the commercial management of planned works and refurbishment projects.

    * Support the preparation and submission of interim valuations and final accounts.

    * Assist in the procurement, administration and management of subcontractors.

    * Monitor project costs and support effective cost control throughout the project lifecycle.

    * Prepare and process subcontractor payments and variations.

    * Assist with forecasting, budgeting and commercial reporting.

    * Maintain accurate commercial records and project documentation.

    * Support the Senior Quantity Surveyor in identifying commercial risks and opportunities.

    * Build effective working relationships with clients, subcontractors and internal project teams.

    * Ensure compliance with company procedures and contractual requirements.

    Ideal Candidate:

    * Experience working on planned maintenance, refurbishment or social housing projects is desirable

    * A proactive attitude with a genuine desire to learn and develop professionally.

    * The ability to work collaboratively within a commercial team while managing your own workload

    * A full UK driving licence is essential due to travel between the office and project sites
