How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Neighbourhood Engineer (M&E)
    London | Permanent
Circa £50,000 per annum; £66,600 including emergency call-out
35 hours per week, Monday to Friday

We are looking for an experienced Neighbourhood Engineer with a strong mechanical or electrical background to support the safe, compliant and cost-effective operation of building services across a residential property portfolio.

This is a varied, field-based opportunity combining technical inspections, contractor oversight, compliance work and practical problem-solving. You will spend four days each week visiting sites across London and one day working from the office. Mileage is paid.

The role will suit someone who has previously worked “on the tools” within a mechanical or electrical discipline and is now comfortable applying that knowledge to inspections, technical reporting and the management of contractors and remedial works.

    The role

You will provide technical support and advice on mechanical and electrical equipment, helping colleagues and external contractors maintain, service and repair building systems to the required standards.

A key part of the position will be completing site surveys, inspecting installed equipment and producing clear technical reports. You will help identify failing systems, capture asset information and confirm that installations comply with statutory requirements and the organisation’s own standards.

    Your responsibilities will include:

Completing a minimum of four M&E site inspections each week
Surveying equipment, identifying defects and capturing asset data
Producing technical reports, specifications and inspection notes
Providing technical support to contract and housing management teams
Monitoring planned maintenance, compliance programmes and repairs
Post-inspecting completed installations and contractor works
Reviewing contractor quotations for technical suitability and value for money
Recording health and safety concerns identified during inspections
Working constructively with residents, contractors and other stakeholders
Attending emergency call-outs as the organisation’s representative
Occasionally supporting access arrangements for compliance inspections
Following relevant statutory, health and safety and financial proceduresAbout you

You will need a practical understanding of building services systems, supported by hands-on experience in a mechanical or electrical trade.

    Essential requirements include:

Working knowledge of building services systems
Previous “on the tools” experience in a mechanical or electrical discipline
A relevant trade qualification, such as an apprenticeship, NVQ, City & Guilds or 18th Edition qualification
    Experience managing works and contractors
Experience writing technical reports and specifications
The ability to explain complex technical matters clearly to non-technical stakeholdersExperience within residential housing would be helpful, as would knowledge of asset management systems or tools. A degree, HND or HNC in Building Services Engineering or a related discipline would also be advantageous.

You will work four days per week across sites in London and one day in the office. The position includes participation in a remote emergency call-out rota twice per week, paid at £300 per week. The total package is stated as £66,600 including emergency call-out payments.

A basic DBS check is required.

Benefits include an excellent package, employer pension contributions of up to 10% and paid support for professional development.

If you are an experienced mechanical or electrical professional looking to combine your technical knowledge with inspection, compliance and contractor management responsibilities, we would be pleased to hear from you
