How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Research Scientist

    Location: Near Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire

    Contract: 12-Month Temporary Contract

    Salary: £30,000–£40,000 (Depending on Experience)


    Are you a recent PhD graduate with a passion for aquatic research and animal biology? We are looking for a Research Scientist to join an innovative research team, supporting the delivery of high-quality scientific projects focused on fish biology and aquatic science.


    This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to apply their research expertise in a commercial environment, working on meaningful projects that contribute to the understanding of fish health, behaviour, welfare, and ecology.


    The Role

    As a Research Scientist, you will be responsible for planning, managing, and delivering research projects, analysing experimental data, and communicating scientific findings to both technical and non-technical audiences. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to the development of new research methods and scientific knowledge.


    Key Responsibilities

    • Design, manage, and deliver research projects within the aquatic research portfolio.
    • Analyse and interpret scientific data using statistical tools, including R where applicable.
    • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and scientific publications.
    • Collaborate with internal and external research partners.
    • Stay up to date with developments in aquatic biology and related scientific fields.
    • Provide scientific expertise and technical support to project teams.


    About You

    To be successful in this role, you will have:

    • A PhD in Fish Biology, Marine Biology, Animal Biology, Ecology, Animal Welfare, Physiology, or another related biological science.
    • Experience designing and delivering scientific research projects.
    • Strong statistical analysis skills, with experience using R being highly desirable.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • The ability to work independently while managing multiple research activities.


    Desirable Experience

    • Hands-on experience working with fish or aquatic species.
    • Experience in fish husbandry or aquatic animal handling.
    • A strong publication record or experience presenting research at scientific conferences.


    Additional Requirements

    • Full right to work in the UK.
    • Ability to drive due to the location of the site.
