How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Clerk of Works - Building & M&E Compliance


    Carbon60 is looking to recruit an experienced Clerk of Works – Building & M&E Compliance to provide independent technical oversight of contractor works across a major building project in London, ensuring works are completed safely, compliantly, and to the highest quality standards.



    ROLE: Clerk of Works – Building & M&E Compliance


    PAY RATE: £300 per day


    CONTRACT TYPE: 3 Months (Potential extension)


    WORKING HOURS:

    Monday to Friday – Night Shifts (Out of Hours)

    Typical working hours: 5:00pm – 3:00am

    Occasional weekend working may be required to support critical programme activities

    37.5 hours per week


    LOCATION: Highbury Corner Magistrates Court, Highbury, London N7 8JA


    THE ROLE:

    The successful candidate will provide independent, technically focused oversight of contractor activities across the project, ensuring all works are delivered in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, statutory regulations, and project requirements.


    Acting as the client's on-site representative, you will monitor quality, safety, compliance, and programme performance while supporting the Project Manager by identifying risks, resolving issues where possible, and maintaining clear, evidence-based reporting throughout the project lifecycle.


    A mechanical engineering background is highly preferred, and applicants should have strong experience overseeing complex building services or construction projects.


    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Provide independent on-site inspection and technical oversight of contractor works

    Ensure all works comply with approved drawings, specifications, standards, and statutory requirements

    Monitor workmanship, material quality, and compliance throughout the project

    Identify and challenge non-compliant work, ensuring corrective actions are implemented

    Support the Project Manager by identifying project risks, defects, delays, and technical issues

    Review contractor performance against programme milestones and approved project plans

    Produce accurate, evidence-based inspection reports and compliance documentation

    Verify compliance with change control procedures and approved project scope

    Work within live operational environments while ensuring minimal disruption to site activities

    Build effective relationships with contractors, consultants, designers, and project stakeholders


    HEALTH, SAFETY & COMPLIANCE:

    Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations and construction legislation

    Verify Principal Contractor and Principal Designer responsibilities are being fulfilled

    Carry out and document temporary works inspections

    Review RAMS, permits, isolations, and access arrangements before works commence

    Promote a strong health and safety culture across site activities

    Support incident, accident, and near-miss investigations where required

    Ensure high standards of housekeeping, safety, and SHEQ compliance are maintained


    ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Previous experience as a Clerk of Works, Site Inspector, Building Services Inspector, or similar technical quality assurance role

    Strong understanding of building services, construction quality, and compliance requirements

    Experience monitoring contractor performance on live construction projects

    Excellent knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, and technical standards

    Strong understanding of CDM Regulations and Health & Safety legislation

    Excellent reporting, communication, and stakeholder management skills

    Ability to identify technical issues and challenge non-compliant works confidently

    Comfortable working night shifts and within operational environments


    DESIRABLE:

    Mechanical engineering background (highly preferred)

    Experience working on public sector, commercial, or large infrastructure projects

    Knowledge of building compliance, commissioning, and project assurance processes

    Experience producing evidence-based quality and compliance reports
