How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Company Overview

OakTree Power Limited is a leading climate-tech company that works with grid operators to enable the transition to a fully sustainable electricity system. We partner with commercial and industrial clients to reduce energy wastage and CO₂ emissions, and support grid operators through a variety of flexibility services. Our vision is to empower clients to work towards a long-term goal of sustainability by fully embracing the concept of energy management.

    Role Overview

OakTree Power is expanding beyond the GB market into European flexibility and ancillary services markets. The Head of European Energy Markets will lead and coordinate this expansion - identifying, assessing, and prioritising the markets where OakTree Power's demand-side flexibility model can generate the greatest value, and then leading entry into those markets from first assessment through to live participation.

We've already made our first moves in Europe - some contracts are already secured, and the location and capabilities of our key customers will help point the way. This is your opportunity to take that early momentum and run with it: developing the market value assessments that determine where we focus next - quantifying revenue potential across ancillary services, capacity mechanisms, and wholesale optimisation in target markets; and owning the practical route to entry: regulatory prequalification, TSO/DSO engagement, partner selection, and commercial launch.

You will work closely with the CEO and the senior leadership team, and alongside our existing European innovation activity, including our consortium role in Belgium's SCOPE project on secondary flexibility markets.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Market Value Assessment

    • Build and improve market value assessments for target European markets, quantifying revenue potential for demand-side flexibility across ancillary services (especially mFRR), capacity mechanisms, and wholesale/balancing markets.
    • Model market prices, volumes, saturation dynamics, and regulatory trajectories to produce defensible revenue forecasts and business cases for market entry decisions.
    • Monitor European market and regulatory developments (ENTSO-E, ACER, national regulators, EU network codes) and translate them into commercial implications for OakTree Power.
    • Maintain a prioritised European market entry pipeline, with clear go/no-go recommendations to the CEO and Board.

    New Market Entry

    • Own the end-to-end market entry process for prioritised markets - from initial feasibility through prequalification, licensing/registration, and first revenue.
    • Lead engagement with TSOs, DSOs, and market operators on market access requirements, product prequalification, and aggregation frameworks.
    • Define the operational and technical requirements for each market entry (metering, baselining, dispatch, settlement) and coordinate internal teams to deliver readiness.
    • Lead cross-functional market-entry programmes across Commercial, Operations, Product, Engineering and Data, ensuring that each market progresses from assessment to operational readiness and first revenue.

    Commercial Development

Support pricing, contracting, and revenue share structures for new European programmes.

    Stakeholder & Market Representation

    • Represent OakTree Power in European industry forums, regulatory consultations, and working groups.
    • Build and maintain relationships with TSOs, DSOs, regulators, and market bodies across target markets.
    • Support European grant and innovation funding opportunities (Horizon Europe, national programmes), including contribution to consortium projects.

    Leadership & Cross-Functional Working

Contribute to the senior leadership team, shaping OakTree Power's international growth strategy.

Coordinate cross-functional squads (commercial, operations, engineering, data science, policy) to deliver market entries.

Build and lead a dedicated European markets team as the portfolio and revenues grow.

    Compensation and Benefits

OakTree Power offers a competitive senior leadership package, reflecting the candidate’s experience, location and market expertise.

The package is expected to include:

    • Competitive base salary.
    • Potential equity participation.
    • Employer pension contribution.
    • Annual leave plus applicable public holidays.
    • Flexible hybrid-working arrangements.
    • Business travel expenses.
    • Support with European employment or relocation requirements where applicable.

    Essential Requirements

    1. Deep, demonstrable understanding of European ancillary services markets including prequalification and aggregation frameworks.
    2. Proven experience in market value assessment - building revenue models, market sizing, and business cases for energy market opportunities.
    3. Track record of delivering market entry, product launch, or market access programmes in one or more European energy markets.
    4. Strong understanding of European energy market structures, EU network codes, and TSO/DSO procurement mechanisms.
    5. Professional fluency in French and/or German / Spanish, in addition to English.
    6. Exceptional stakeholder skills - credible with TSOs, regulators, and market bodies, and able to influence at Board level.
    7. Willingness to travel regularly across European markets.

    Desirable Experience

    1. Experience with demand-side response / demand-side flexibility
    2. Knowledge of balancing market design
    3. Experience working with or within a TSO, DSO, or market operator.
    4. Experience with Horizon Europe or national innovation funding programmes.
    5. Experience in a fast-growth cleantech, energy tech, or scale-up environment.

    About You

You are an energy markets expert who is equally at home building a market revenue model as presenting an entry strategy to a TSO or a Board. You know European ancillary services markets from the inside - the products, the prequalification hurdles, the aggregation rules, and where the real value sits for demand-side flexibility. You are entrepreneurial, comfortable with ambiguity, and motivated by taking a proven GB business into new territory. You can operate in French and/or German, and you enjoy the mix of analysis, relationship-building, and hands-on delivery that a market entry role demands.
