Location: Office Based, Crawley or Gatwick
Job purpose
We are recruiting for a Graduate Surveyor to join the Crawley/Gatwick business space agency team.
The role will involve providing support to the Partners / Director in the team undertaking building inspections, viewings and general agency work, including drafting reports, calling applicants, designing and implementing marketing campaigns and keeping clients updated on progress.
The role is likely to be varied dealing with warehouse & logistics properties, offices, retail and other commercial uses. Support will be provided to assist the individual through the RICS APC process, including obtaining an RICS accredited degree, if required.
The role requires a focused, enthusiastic, and determined Graduate Surveyor with the ability to use own initiative and work in a team environment.
A confident manner, meeting and communicating with Landlords, Developers and Tenants. The ability to demonstrate problem solving and prioritising workload to meet tight deadlines by scheduling time and focusing on the most important tasks with daily accountability.
The role requires attendance in the office 5 days a week to engage and participate with the team, ensuring thorough training is carried out. Office attendance will predominantly be to the SHW Crawley/Gatwick office, with occasional travel to other SHW offices.
Role Dimensions
Experience within different disciplines will be gained within the department and also the opportunity to gain additional experience during the APC training period.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Partner & other members of the team at site inspections and preparing subsequent strategy reports.
- Research and provide comparables, statistical and other information as and when requested.
- Maintain databases/websites with property details.
- Assist in updating marketing & availability schedules.
- Undertaking negotiations to agree letting and sales deals.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with clients and applicants via telephone calls, letters and e-mails.
- Comply with the administrative procedures, personnel and safety procedures, and codes of conduct, as laid down by the Company, and observe requirements of the Company’s Quality Manual.
- Maintain strict confidentiality in all matters concerning the company and its clients.
- Keep up to date with any changes or proposed changes in legislation, Codes of Practice or Directives pertinent to your work.
- Attend meetings and record minutes as and when requested.
- Provide other ad-hoc support and to the various teams.
- Attend networking events to build up relations and client base in local area.
- Any other reasonable duties Management may request from time to time.

Person specification
Knowledge, skills and experience required
Knowledge
- A basic understanding of commercial property matters.
- Some knowledge of the local area and principal towns.
- Knowledge of current SHW commercial activity and the services that we offer.
- IT literate, with an ability to use IT as a tool to support work, through effective use of databases, websites and in-house templates.
- Appreciation of the external factors that influence the property sector.
- Appreciation of how a business may be secured and how to cross sell other SHW service lines.

Experience
- Some experience of working within the property sector is required and a desire to build a career within the property sector is essential.
- An undergraduate degree in Commercial Surveying or similar degree with a desire to undertake a Masters in Commercial Surveying or working towards their APC.
