How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Print Designer (Freelance or Fixed-Term) – Remote

We're looking to expand our pool of freelance print designers as we head into a busy and exciting time of year for our magazine and special print projects. Working alongside our Art Director and in-house print designers, you'll help bring editorial and commercial stories to life through compelling layouts, typography, and imagery, producing beautifully crafted pages that resonate with our global audience of discerning travellers. This is a print-focused role for an experienced, detail-oriented designer who is able to jump in and work independently in this fully remote role. We welcome applications from those looking to join us on a freelance basis or on a three-month fixed-term contract.

    Digital Design Experience?

If you're a designer with an eye for crafting immersive, multimedia online articles, we'd love to hear from you too. Experience in digital design (using tools like Elementor and Shorthand, and comfortable with CMS platforms and CSS) is a real bonus alongside print, with the opportunity to work across both our print and digital design teams and to support on other design work such as social media assets, event visuals, and custom proposals.

    Why Join Wanderlust?

For over three decades, Wanderlust has inspired readers to seek deeper, meaningful, responsible travels. In recent years, we've seen rapid growth, expanded into 80+ markets, revamped our print magazine and bookazines, and we continue to push the boundaries of travel storytelling across print and digital. As a creative team, we don't just produce content. We build powerful experiences rooted in our values of authentic, meaningful and responsible travel, and we're looking for designers who can support that vision.

    What You'll Be Doing

From fast-turnaround commercial pages to major editorial initiatives, you'll produce compelling visual content that excites our readers and clients alike across our magazine, bookazine and supplement formats.

    Day to day, you will:

    • Design page layouts for each print issue of Wanderlust, and for our bookazines and supplements, ensuring strong visual hierarchy and alignment with our brand style.
    • Collaborate with editorial staff to interpret article tone and narrative into compelling visual designs.
    • Source and manage imagery, ensuring visual alignment with our brand and editorial values.
    • Apply advanced typography skills to enhance readability and visual appeal.
    • Prepare files for print production, ensuring technical accuracy and consistency in colour, bleed, and resolution.
    • Meet regular production deadlines and support multiple projects simultaneously.

    Essential Skills & Experience

    • 5+ years of experience in print design in magazine publishing.
    • Senior enough to step into a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and deliver independently, while collaborating effectively with the wider team.
    • Strong portfolio demonstrating sophisticated layout, typography, and image treatment skills.
    • Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
    • Excellent understanding of print production processes and file preparation.
    • A passion for travel, and an understanding of the values of Wanderlust and how they translate visually, is a must.
