How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    SLB Cambridge Research (SCR) is part of SLB’s global network of research and engineering centres. SCR is a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment with state-of-the-art research and computing facilities. We work on applied research projects in the physical sciences to meet the current and future challenges of the industry.


    Job Summary:

    We are seeking a creative self-motivated Research Scientist to develop experiments for understanding the complex flow dynamics in geothermal systems. The initial focus will be on designing and leading experiments to validate mathematical models of fluid flow in enhanced geothermal systems.


    The focus will then expand to lead the experiments to improve design and optimization of geothermal systems. The job will require experience in mechanical design, building, and commissioning of experiments at temperature and pressure.


    The candidate will also need to work constructively and effectively in a multidisciplinary team with business and engineering teams to ensure their solutions have a significant impact. They will also present their work internally and externally.


    Responsibilities:

    • Work in designing and executing multiphase fluid flow experiments (gas, liquid, and solid phases) to contribute to our research of geothermal systems at SCR
    • Work with modellers and geothermal domain experts to build and validate models and concepts
    • Engage and collaborate with SLB technical community
    • Ability to develop novel solutions to research and engineering problems, and articulate them to the technology team and management
    • Publish scientific papers, write patent applications and attend conferences


    Qualifications:

    • PhD in Fluid mechanics or a related field
    • Experience in design of experimental rigs and expertise in building, and commissioning of experiments is essential
    • Experience in particle tracking techniques
    • Experience in heat transfer (modelling or experiments)
    • Experience in data acquisition, signal processing, and data interpretation including data science approaches is highly desirable
    • Experience in advanced instrumentation for multiphase flow measurements including laser-optical (PLIF, PIV), electrical, ultrasonic, and nuclear techniques is desirable
    • CFD modelling of multiphase flows (OpenFoam, COMSOL, Ansys) is desirable
    • Relevant publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals are desirable
    • Understanding of Geothermal Systems is desirable
