The Opportunity
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a talented Trade Mark Attorney, Solicitor or IP specialist to join a leading trade marks and brand protection practice, working closely with a highly regarded practitioner recognised by Legal 500, WTR 1000, MIP IP Stars and Lexology Index.
This role offers exposure to a broad range of domestic and international clients, from global brands to high-growth businesses, across sectors including technology, telecommunications, retail, sports, food & beverage, life sciences and education.
The successful candidate will play a key role in advising clients throughout the full brand lifecycle, from clearance and protection through to portfolio management, enforcement and disputes.
Key Responsibilities
- Advising clients on UK and international trade mark clearance, risk assessment and filing strategies.
- Managing trade mark portfolios for a varied client base.
- Conducting and interpreting clearance searches and freedom-to-operate assessments.
- Handling UKIPO and international prosecution matters.
- Advising on contentious trade mark matters, oppositions, cancellations and infringement disputes.
- Supporting clients with design right protection and enforcement strategies.
- Assisting with domain name disputes, company name complaints and online brand protection issues.
- Advising on non-traditional trade marks including colours, sounds, motion marks and other emerging brand assets.
- Liaising with overseas counsel to coordinate global filing and enforcement programmes.
- Building strong long-term relationships with clients and becoming a trusted commercial adviser.
- Contributing to business development, marketing activities and thought leadership.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have:
- Qualified Trade Mark Attorney, Solicitor or equivalent IP qualification. 5+ years experience
- Strong experience in trade mark clearance, prosecution and portfolio management.
- Exposure to contentious trade mark work including oppositions and cancellation proceedings.
- Experience managing client relationships independently.
- Commercial awareness and an ability to provide practical, business-focused advice.
- Strong drafting, analytical and communication skills.
- An interest in wider brand protection issues, including designs, copyright and online enforcement.
- A collaborative approach and desire to develop within a growing specialist practice.

- UKIPO advocacy experience.
