How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Customer focused Engineering Stores Apprentice

Sherburn (On client site) | 🕒 Full Time | 🎓 Apprenticeship Opportunity

Kick-start your career in the engineering sector

Hayley Dexis is the largest independent distributor of engineering products and consumables in the UK. We currently employ over 1,300 people who continue to be a cornerstone of our business and are fundamental to providing industry-leading customer service.

Hayley Dexis is looking for a Customer-Facing Engineering Stores Apprentice to join our onsite team supporting a busy manufacturing environment in Sherburn.

This is not your typical warehouse role — it’s an exciting opportunity to start a long-term career in engineering stores, procurement, and operations, working directly with engineers and site teams where your work has a real impact.

    About the role

You’ll be based onsite at a customer’s facility, working in a customer-facing engineering stores environment. You’ll play a key role in making sure critical machine parts and components are available when needed — helping to keep operations running efficiently and reduce downtime.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll learn how stores, engineering, and customer service come together in a real working environment.

Successful candidates will undertake an apprenticeship in Customer Service. The level of qualification will depend on what current level of qualification you have achieved already.

    What you’ll learn and do

Deliver excellent customer service, building relationships with engineers and site teams

Manage and organise engineering parts and machine components

Support the procurement and ordering of critical spares

Balance stock availability with cost control and efficiency

Maintain high standards through continuous improvement

Carry out key stores duties such as goods in, stock checks, and organisation

    What you’ll gain

This role is designed as a career pathway, not just an apprenticeship.

    Real-world experience in a customer-facing engineering environment

    A recognised Customer Service apprenticeship

Clear progression into permanent and senior roles

    What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who is motivated, hands-on, and eager to start building a career in a customer-facing engineering environment.

A natural customer service mindset with good communication skills

Confident working with people and building positive relationships

A willingness to learn and get stuck into a hands-on role

Good attention to detail and problem-solving skills

    An interest in the sector

Reliable, enthusiastic, and keen to build a long-term career

GCSEs (or equivalent), including English and Maths

Basic IT skills (e.g. Microsoft Office)

Able to travel to site and be based locally

No prior experience needed — just a great attitude and willingness to learn.

    Why join us?

A genuine career pathway, not just a job

Supportive team with responsibility from day one

    Ongoing training and development

Salary of £16,640 + funded apprenticeship

23+ days holiday + bank holidays
