How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Our client operates within the electrical contracting and property services sector and is looking for someone who can help drive business growth by opening new doors, building commercial relationships and creating opportunities for the company to quote for new work.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive and professional individual who understands how trade-based businesses operate and can confidently engage with commercial customers, landlords, letting agents, property managers, facilities managers, contractors and other business decision makers.

    The Role

As Business Development Manager, your main responsibility will be to create new commercial opportunities for the business.

You will identify companies and organisations that may require electrical services, compliance support, reactive maintenance, project work or ongoing contractor support. Once an opportunity has been identified, you will introduce the customer to the business so that the appropriate technical or commercial person can attend, assess the requirement and provide a quotation.

This role is not about personally quoting or delivering the works. It is about opening doors, qualifying opportunities, developing relationships and making sure the business is introduced to the right customers at the right time.

You will also play a key role in sourcing commercial tenders and supporting the writing, coordination and submission of tender applications.

    About You

Our client is looking for someone who is commercially aware, confident and proactive.

You should be comfortable starting conversations, building relationships and representing a professional trade-based business in a credible way. You will need to be organised, persistent and able to follow up opportunities properly.

You do not need to be a qualified Electrician. However, experience in a trade-based, construction, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, heating, facilities management or property services business would be highly beneficial.

You should also have strong written communication skills, particularly for customer emails, proposals and tender submissions.

    Key Responsibilities

    Your responsibilities will include:

Identifying and approaching new commercial customers who may require electrical services, compliance support, maintenance or project work.
Building relationships with landlords, letting agents, property managers, facilities managers, construction companies, developers, commercial businesses and other relevant organisations.
Acting as a key introducer by opening conversations and creating opportunities for the company to quote for work.
Arranging meetings, calls and site visits between potential customers and the internal team.
Sourcing suitable tender opportunities from tender portals, procurement platforms, frameworks and other commercial sources.
Supporting the writing, coordination and submission of tender applications.
Gathering key information from prospects so the internal team can assess, quote and follow up opportunities properly.
Maintaining a pipeline of leads, opportunities, tenders and follow-up actions.
Following up with prospects after introductions, site visits and submitted quotations.
Representing the business professionally at meetings, networking events and business development activities.
Working closely with directors, estimators, engineers and the wider team to help convert opportunities into confirmed work.
Keeping accurate records of activity, opportunities and progress.

    Experience Required

The ideal candidate will have experience in one or more of the following areas:

    Business development
    Sales
    Account management
    Commercial relationship management
    Tender sourcing
    Tender writing
    Construction, trades or property services
    Facilities management
Electrical, mechanical, plumbing, heating or maintenance services
Experience working with landlords, letting agents, property managers, contractors, developers or commercial property owners would be particularly useful

    Skills Required:

    Strong communication skills.
Confidence speaking to business owners, directors, landlords, letting agents, property managers and procurement teams.
Good written skills for tenders, proposals and customer correspondence.
Ability to identify and qualify commercial opportunities.
    Strong organisation and follow-up.
    Commercial awareness.
Ability to manage multiple leads, tenders and deadlines.
Confidence using email, Microsoft Office, CRM systems and online tender portals.
Professional approach and good attention to detail.
Self-motivation and the ability to work independently.

    Key Performance Areas

Success in this role will be measured by:

    New commercial introductions made.
    Qualified opportunities generated.
Site visits and quotation opportunities arranged.
    Tender opportunities sourced.
    Tender submissions completed.
    Value of opportunities introduced.
Value of work won from introduced opportunities.
    Growth in repeat commercial accounts.
Quality of pipeline management and follow-up.

    Benefits:

Attractive and competitive salary and bonus scheme
Home based, with regular visits to the office
    Company car
    Holiday
