How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    We are looking for a Site Warden (Fishery Ranger) to join us on a permanent basis.
    You’ll be operating the visitor facilities at the Farmoor Reservoir for anglers, birdwatchers, and other recreational users on behalf of Thames Water. You’ll promote, manage, and interpret the access and recreational offer of the site to visitors. You’ll contribute towards the development of facilities, improving and monitoring performance of the fisheries. You’ll support partnerships with external stakeholder groups, working closely with operations and the Conservation, Access, and Recreation section.

    Hours: 38 hours per week, rotational shift pattern

    Location: Farmoor – Oxford – OX2 9NS

    What you will be doing as a Site Warden (Fishery Ranger)

    Site maintenance and inspections – plan and implement maintenance for visitor facilities e.g. signs and fencing, supervise contractors, keep the site clean and safe and undertake reservoir/health and safety inspections
    Stakeholder engagement - listens to customers and take a proactive view to health and safety, customer experience and other adhoc issues which arise. Willing to solve problems.
    Facility and equipment management – managing signage, car parks, hire equipment, boats, and general visitor infrastructure
    Visitor Operations – run facilities on an agreed shift rota, manage permits and visitor behaviour, site promotion, and supporting with educational visits
    Teamwork, reporting, and compliance – support team goals and supervising contractors when needed, monitor performance data contributing to annual reporting such as visitor numbers feedback and catch rates, operating within Thames Water policies including PPE and ID
    Event Support – help plan and run site events that promote recreation and engagementThe essential criteria you must bring to the role are:

    A full, valid UK driving license. You will be provided with a company vehicle
    Proficient in MS packages, especially Word and Excel to monitor financial and performance data, with written communication skills to write reports
    Strong interpersonal and teamworking skills, with the ability to quickly build rapport with the public
    Evidence of ideas and innovations to develop a visitor site, showing enthusiasm to support this development
    Willingness to support anglers during their visits, presenting as an ambassador for Thames Water to the public
    Strong physical strength – ability to lift feed sacks, use hand tools, drive power boats, walk a minimum of 3 miles, and undertake general maintenance tasksAdditional skills and experiences would be great to have/bring: 

    A recognised fisheries or ranger/recreation management qualification, or at least 6 months experience of wildlife site work, fishery management work, or access/recreation ranger work on visitor sites.What’s in it for you?
