How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

SP Electricity North West manages and invests in the power network that supplies electricity to the 2.4m homes and businesses across the North West. Our 2,400 colleagues manage the 13,000km of overhead lines, 44,000km of underground cables and thousands of electricity substations to keep power flowing and supporting green growth. We’re one of six distribution network operators in the UK and are regulated by Ofgem.

We’re proud that in December 2024 we were named Utility of the Year by Utility Week magazine who said we punched above our weight and used innovation to solve some of the industry’s most difficult challenges. Come and be part of our team and make a difference.

Now part of the Iberdrola and ScottishPower group, we’re collectively building smarter, greener electricity networks that will get Britain growing by investing in a better future, quicker.

These investment programmes represent annual expenditure of approximately £150m-£200m.

Working within the Asset Management team in the Asset Management & Investment Directorate, you will contribute to the long-term strategic direction of the network asset base. The role involves analysing asset performance and risk, identifying opportunities to improve outcomes for customers and stakeholders, supporting evidence-based decision making, and helping the business optimise investment priorities. You will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure investment plans deliver value, manage emerging risks and support the organisation's strategic objectives.

    * Develop and maintain a rolling network investment plan for circuit assets, ensuring compliance with regulatory, statutory and business requirements.

    * Use asset performance, risk and cost-benefit analysis to inform investment priorities and support value-driven decision-making.

    * Lead the development of asset replacement and network investment strategies, taking account of asset condition, resilience, performance, risk and future network requirements.

    * Contribute to regulatory submissions, reporting and business planning activities, including the preparation of technical and investment justification documentation where required.

    * Work collaboratively with operational teams and specialist partners to identify and deliver effective, innovative investment solutions.

    * Develop and maintain asset management policies, strategies and plans in line with industry standards and organisational objectives.

    * Monitor external developments, including industry, regulatory and legislative changes, and help assess their impact on the business.

    * Build productive relationships with regulators, industry bodies, suppliers, local authorities and other key stakeholders to support successful programme delivery and share best practice.

    * Represent the organisation in relevant industry forums, working groups and collaborative initiatives as required.

    * Provide leadership, coaching and support to colleagues, fostering an inclusive, collaborative and high-performing team environment.

    * Contribute positively to change initiatives by encouraging engagement, continuous improvement and effective communication.

    What you'll need:

    * A degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent qualification).

    * Membership of a relevant professional body, such as the IET or IAM. Chartered status is desirable.

    * Strong knowledge of electricity networks, including the operation and management of circuit assets.

    * Understanding of the RIIO-ED2 regulatory framework and its implications for network investment and asset management.

    * Experience using technical, operational and financial data to inform decision-making and investment priorities.

    * Ability to analyse complex issues, make evidence-based decisions and provide clear technical recommendations.

    * Knowledge of asset management principles and best practice, including familiarity with ISO 55000.

    * Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across a range of audiences.

    * Experience delivering high-quality outcomes in a fast-paced and changing environment.

    * Ability to present complex information clearly through reports and presentations to senior stakeholders.
