How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Hours: Monday – Thursday: 7:00am – 4:00pm | Friday: 7:00am – 12:00pm

    Meridian Business Support is recruiting on behalf of a long-established and highly respected precision sheet metal engineering company based in Stockport.

    We are looking for a motivated Engineering Workshop Assistant to join a busy engineering workshop. This Workshop Assistant opportunity is ideal for someone with previous experience working within a manufacturing, engineering or workshop environment who is looking to develop their skills and progress into a long-term engineering career.

    Working alongside experienced engineers, this Workshop Assistant role offers hands-on training, exposure to a variety of engineering disciplines and genuine opportunities for career progression.

    The Role As an Engineering Workshop Assistant, you'll play an important part in supporting the day-to-day running of the engineering workshop while learning valuable engineering skills from experienced professionals.

    Your responsibilities will include:

    Assisting engineers and technicians with day-to-day workshop activities.
    Supporting the refurbishment and ongoing development of the engineering workshop.
    Preparing, moving and organising materials and components.
    Using a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively.
    Assisting with equipment inspections and basic maintenance.
    Supporting fabrication, mechanical assembly and general engineering projects.
    Learning to interpret engineering drawings and technical instructions under supervision.
    Maintaining excellent housekeeping, quality and health & safety standards.
    Providing general support across the engineering and production teams as required.To be successful as our Engineering Workshop Assistant, you'll already have experience working within a manufacturing, engineering or workshop environment and be looking to develop your engineering career.

    You'll ideally have:

    Previous experience working as a Workshop Assistant, Workshop Operative, Manufacturing Operative or within an engineering workshop.
    Experience using hand tools in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
    A practical, hands-on approach with excellent attention to detail.
    A strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
    Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
    Excellent reliability and punctuality.
    A genuine interest in engineering and manufacturing.Experience within sheet metal, fabrication, mechanical assembly, production or maintenance would be highly advantageous.
