Job Objectives
To offer day to day support to the Yard Manager in the safe management of the yard operations and team.
Oversee daily yard activities, ensuring our high-level safety and compliance requirements are met and any hazards are addressed promptly.
Assist with management of process improvement projects and annual stock checks.
Assist with storage layouts and optimise space utilisation within the Yard area.
Ensure safety standards are maintained when loading/unloading vehicles.
Operational Duties(to include, but not limited to):
Supervising yard support team and others from the labour pool.
If Yard Manager absent, deliver a full team briefing at the start of the working day, ensure clear instruction is delivered for the day’s workload.
Oversee all yard activities with the Yard Manager, including loading, unloading and storage operations, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company policies and help with fostering a culture of safety within the team.
Monitor additional yard labour requirements and communicate this to the Yard Manager.
Support the Yard Manager with stock movements.
Ensure all returned equipment from site is checked, cleaned, separated and returned to stock.
Supervise the Yard Support team in maintaining and keeping a clean, safe working environment with all risks minimised and report any areas of concern to the Yard Manager verbally and via the Near Miss and Damages procedures.
Guide and encourage Yard Support personnel to check and maintain stock levels, report any shortfall to the Yard Manager.
Assist with managing stock control within the yard operation, support the annual company stock take and other stock enquiries.
Supervise with the Yard Manager, operational waste in the most cost effective and environmentally friendly manner, ensure skips are regularly emptied yet utilised to full capacity.
Supervise the co-ordination of the service, inspection and repair of equipment as necessary.
To carry out any activity that fits within the role as instructed by the Yard Manager.
Admin Duties(to include, but not limited to):
Ensure company procedures, with particular emphasis on operations support procedures, are adhered to.
Monitor and communicate live load list information to the Management/Ops Support Team where appropriate.
Advise the Yard Manager of any items not returned or returned damaged from site.
Advise the Yard Manager of stock shortages and consumables required.
Liaise with the Operations support team regarding vehicle availability and transport schedules.
Attend Operations meetings as and when required.
Ensure all outbound loads are checked.
Health & Safety
Proactively develop Health & Safety awareness and knowledge.
Liaise with the Yard Manager with a view to developing and improving processes within the business.
Supervise the Yard Support team to ensure that instructions and procedures outlined in the Health and Safety documents are adhered to within the Yard.
Actively monitor Near Miss incidents reporting to the Yard Manager verbally and via the Near Miss reporting procedure.
Assist with ensuring that there is sufficient First Aid equipment and Personal Protective Clothing available for the Yard operations team at all times.
To take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and other persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work.
To undertake duties and responsibilities in full accordance with the organisation’s Health & Safety policy and procedures.
To co-operate with policies and procedures to enable the organisation to comply with its obligation under Health & Safety legislation.
To report immediately to your line manager any defects in equipment or the working environment and report areas of risk.

33k salary plus overtime ( expectation of doing overtime in the busy summer months )
