How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Lead Electrical Design Engineer

    Cheshire | Hybrid Working | Competitive Salary + Bonus + Excellent Benefits

    Ready to lead major engineering projects instead of simply delivering them?

    If you're an experienced Electrical Design Engineer looking for the opportunity to influence technical direction, mentor a growing team and work on complex, high-value engineering projects, this could be the move you've been waiting for.

    We're recruiting on behalf of a leading M&E engineering contractor delivering complete design, installation and maintenance solutions across the industrial, manufacturing, commercial and critical infrastructure sectors.

    This is a genuine leadership role where you'll have the autonomy to shape electrical design standards, support the development of engineers around you and play a key part in the continued growth of an ambitious and expanding business.

    Why Apply?

    This opportunity offers far more than a traditional design role. You'll work closely with project delivery teams throughout the entire project lifecycle, giving you the chance to see your designs progress from concept through to commissioning while influencing buildability, innovation and value engineering.

    You'll join a collaborative engineering team delivering technically challenging projects across a wide variety of sectors, including:

    Manufacturing

    Industrial

    Food & Beverage

    Pharmaceutical

    Commercial Buildings

    Critical Infrastructure

    Process Engineering

    The Opportunity

    As Lead Electrical Design Engineer, you'll provide technical leadership across multiple projects while managing and mentoring a growing team of Electrical Engineers.

    Working alongside Mechanical Engineers, Project Managers and clients, you'll ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest engineering standards.

    You'll have the freedom to influence design decisions, improve engineering processes and help shape the future direction of the electrical engineering function.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Lead the electrical design function across multiple projects.

    * Manage, mentor and develop a growing team of Electrical Engineers.

    * Produce and review high-quality electrical building services designs.

    * Act as the technical lead for LV electrical systems and associated infrastructure.

    * Design power distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, UPS systems, standby generation and earthing systems.

    * Coordinate with mechanical, process and controls disciplines.

    * Attend client meetings and provide technical guidance throughout project delivery.

    * Ensure compliance with BS 7671, British Standards and industry best practice.

    * Support commissioning activities and resolve technical challenges.

    * Identify opportunities for innovation, sustainability and value engineering.

    * Drive continuous improvement across engineering standards and design quality.

    About You

    You'll be an experienced Electrical Design Engineer who enjoys leading people as much as solving technical challenges.

    You'll likely have experience within Building Services, Industrial or M&E contracting and be comfortable managing design projects from concept through to completion.

    You'll ideally have:

    * Strong Electrical Building Services design experience.

    * Excellent knowledge of LV power distribution and electrical building services.

    * Experience using software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Amtech/Trimble ProDesign and Dialux/Relux.

    * Strong communication and client-facing skills.

    * Previous experience mentoring or leading engineers.

    * A collaborative approach with good commercial awareness.

    Chartered status, or working towards Chartership, would be advantageous but is not essential.

    What's on Offer?

    * Competitive salary and benefits package

    * Performance-related bonus

    * Hybrid working

    * Private healthcare

    * Company pension

    * Ongoing professional development and training

    * Clear progression into senior leadership

    * The opportunity to shape and grow an expanding Electrical Design team

    * Exposure to technically challenging, high-profile engineering projects

    * A supportive, collaborative and forward-thinking working environment
