How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Salary: £27,000–£30,000 depending on experience

Our client is an established construction subcontractor based in Dereham, approximately 15 miles west of Norwich. Due to continued growth, they are looking to recruit a Graduate Quantity Surveyor who is keen to develop a career in estimating and commercial management.

This is an excellent opportunity for a recent Quantity Surveying graduate to join an experienced team and receive practical, hands-on training. You will learn how to review drawings and specifications, prepare quotations, obtain supplier and subcontractor prices, complete take-offs and assist with the preparation of competitive tenders.

The successful candidate will work closely with experienced estimators and commercial professionals, gaining exposure to live construction projects from the initial enquiry stage through to contract award.

    Responsibilities

    * Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documentation

    * Completing measurements and material take-offs

    * Obtaining and comparing supplier and subcontractor quotations

    * Assisting with the preparation of estimates and tender submissions

    * Identifying potential risks, exclusions and commercial considerations

    * Maintaining accurate estimating and project records

    * Liaising with clients, suppliers and internal project teams

    * Supporting the wider commercial team as required

    Candidate Requirements

    * A degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline

    * A genuine interest in developing a career in estimating

    * Strong numerical, analytical and communication skills

    * Good attention to detail

    * Confident using Microsoft Excel and other standard software

    * Previous construction or estimating experience would be beneficial but is not essential

    * Able to commute to Dereham, Norfolk

The position offers a salary of £27,000–£30,000, depending on experience, along with structured training, career progression and the opportunity to build a long-term career with a successful specialist subcontractor
