How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Title: Senior Quantity Surveyor
    Location: Bristol / Hybrid working
Salary: Up to £70,000 + car allowance
Sector: Refurbishment and fit-out projects from £100,000 to £1 million
    Start Date: ASAP

Senior Quantity Surveyor – The Company:

Our client is an established and successful SME main contractor delivering fast-paced refurbishment and fit-out projects across the commercial, education, hospitality and retail sectors.

The business has built a strong reputation for delivering varied, high-quality projects, typically valued between £100,000 and £1 million. With a healthy pipeline of work and continued growth, it is now looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to strengthen its commercial team.

A major benefit of this opportunity is the flexible working arrangement. You will normally only be required in the Bristol office one or two days per week, with the remainder of your time split between working from home and visiting projects as required.

Senior Quantity Surveyor – The Role:

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to take commercial responsibility for multiple refurbishment and fit-out projects at different stages of delivery.

Working in a fast-paced environment, you will oversee projects from procurement and subcontractor appointment through to final account. You will need to prioritise effectively, maintain control of several live contracts and provide accurate commercial information to the wider business.

Reporting to senior management, you will be given considerable autonomy while working closely with Contracts Managers, Site Managers, clients and subcontractors.

    Typical duties and responsibilities:

    *

Take commercial responsibility for multiple refurbishment and fit-out projects

    *

Manage projects from pre-construction and procurement through to completion and final account

    *

Prepare project budgets, cost plans and cash-flow forecasts

    *

Produce accurate monthly cost value reconciliation reports and financial forecasts

    *

Prepare and submit interim valuations and applications for payment

    *

Procure subcontractor packages and prepare subcontract orders

    *

Manage subcontractor accounts, valuations, variations and payments

    *

Identify and value variations, ensuring additional works are recorded and recovered

    *

Monitor project costs, margins, risks and commercial opportunities

    *

Negotiate and agree subcontractor and client final accounts

    *

Review contract documentation and advise project teams on commercial matters

    *

Work closely with operational teams to ensure projects achieve their commercial targets

    *

Maintain accurate records and provide clear commercial reports to senior management

    *

Build effective relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers

Senior Quantity Surveyor – The Person:

    *

Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor for a main contractor

    *

A strong background in refurbishment, fit-out or alteration projects

    *

Experience managing multiple fast-paced projects simultaneously

    *

Commercially astute, with strong knowledge of procurement, valuations, variations and final accounts

    *

Able to prioritise competing deadlines while maintaining accuracy and commercial control

    *

Confident working autonomously and making sound commercial decisions

    *

Strong contract knowledge and an understanding of construction risk

    *

An effective communicator who works well with both commercial and operational teams

    *

Ambitious and interested in developing a long-term career with a growing contractor

    *

Able to travel to the Bristol office and project sites when required

This position is specifically suited to someone with main contracting experience rather than a developer-side background.

Senior Quantity Surveyor – The Reward:

Salary up to £70,000, dependent on experience

    Car allowance

Hybrid working, with only one or two days per week normally required in the Bristol office

Significant flexibility to work from home

Varied and interesting refurbishment projects across several sectors

A high level of autonomy and responsibility

A permanent position with genuine long-term progression

The opportunity to join a successful, close-knit and growing SME contractor

Please contact Foresight Search for more information about this Senior Quantity Surveyor opportunity or any other vacancy
