How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

SEMH Teaching Assistant - Specialist Primary Alternative Provision
    Location: Bolton
    Salary: Competitive rates of pay
    Contract: Full-time | Long-term | September Start | Temp-to-Perm Opportunity

Aspire People are currently recruiting passionate and dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistants to join a specialist Primary Alternative Provision in Bolton from September. This is an exciting opportunity for graduates, particularly those with a background in Psychology, Educational Psychology, or a related field, who are looking to make a genuine difference in the lives of children with additional needs.

This specialist setting supports pupils from Year 1 to Year 6 who have been permanently excluded or are at serious risk of exclusion from mainstream education. All pupils attend on a full-time basis and typically spend a period within the provision before either successfully returning to mainstream education or moving on to a specialist setting.

The school provides a nurturing and supportive environment for pupils who may have missed significant parts of their education and who have often experienced negative educational journeys that have impacted their confidence, self-worth, and engagement with learning.

    The Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:
    * Support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Special Educational Needs (SEN).
    * Build positive, trusting relationships that help children feel safe, valued, and ready to learn.
    * Help pupils overcome barriers to learning through patience, encouragement, and consistent support.
    * Work alongside teachers and other professionals to deliver personalised learning and behaviour strategies.
    * Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation within the classroom and throughout the school day.
    * Encourage pupils to develop confidence, resilience, and independence.
    The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for candidates who:
    * Hold a UK degree in Psychology, Educational Psychology, or a related subject (desirable).
    * Have previous experience supporting children with SEMH and SEN within a primary school or similar educational setting.
    * Are passionate about improving outcomes for vulnerable children.
    * Have excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with pupils and staff.
    * Remain calm, resilient, and positive when working in challenging situations.
    * Are available to work full-time from September on a long-term basis.
    Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must:
    * Hold an enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one.
    * Be able to provide references covering the last two years.
    * Have the right to work in the UK.

    Why Join Aspire People?
    * Competitive rates of pay.
    * Dedicated consultant providing ongoing support throughout your placement.
    * Opportunity to secure a permanent position for the right candidate.
    * Valuable experience within a highly rewarding specialist education setting.
    * Access to ongoing CPD and training opportunities.

If you're a compassionate and motivated individual who wants to make a lasting impact on the lives of children with SEMH and SEN, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply today with Aspire People and take the next step in your education career this September.

Aspire People Limited provides services as an Education Agency and an Education Employment Business. Aspire People is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils and expects every candidate to share this commitment. Placements are subject, to appropriate Child Protection screening, including checks with former employers and the Disclosure and Barring Checks
