How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Location: Halesowen,Birmingham & Witney, Oxfordshire

Our client owns two well-established engineering and manufacturing businesses operating as sister companies within the same group. Together, they provide a comprehensive range of engineering solutions including precision metal pressings, toolmaking, machining, fabrication, welding and project-managed manufacturing services to customers throughout the UK and internationally.

With a strong reputation for quality, technical expertise and customer service, the businesses support customers from initial concept and design through to manufacture and delivery. Operating within an ISO 9001:2015 quality environment, they have built long-standing relationships with a diverse customer base and continue to invest in their people, equipment and capabilities.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a practical, commercially aware and hands-on General Manager to oversee the day-to-day running of both businesses. This role is ideal for someone with a strong engineering or manufacturing background who enjoys being involved in the finance, operation, supporting people, solving problems and ensuring projects are delivered successfully.

Working closely with the business owners, you will be responsible for keeping both operations running smoothly, managing resources, controlling costs and supporting the continued success of the two sister companies.

    Key Responsibilities

Oversee the day-to-day operation of both engineering manufacturing businesses.

Divide your time between the Halesowen and Witney sites, maintaining a regular presence and supporting both teams.

Lead, motivate and support production, engineering and office-based employees.

Ensure projects are planned, resourced and delivered safely, on time, to the required quality standards and within budget.

Work closely with the Sales team to review new orders and determine which business is best placed to undertake the work, considering manufacturing capability, capacity, lead times and technical expertise.

Monitor projects throughout production, ensuring customer expectations are met and any issues are resolved quickly and effectively.

Build strong working relationships with customers, suppliers and subcontractors.

Monitor operational costs and expenditure, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency while maintaining quality and service.

Support production planning and resource allocation across both businesses.

Monitor business performance and provide regular updates to the business owners.

Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, quality and environmental standards.

Encourage collaboration and the sharing of knowledge, skills and resources between both sister companies.

    About You

Previous experience as a General Manager, Operations Manager, Production Manager or Manufacturing Manager within an engineering or manufacturing environment.

A practical engineering or manufacturing background with a good understanding of production processes.

Strong organisational and operational management skills.

Commercial awareness with experience of budgeting, cost control and managing operational expenditure.

A confident and approachable people manager who leads by example.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with customers, suppliers and colleagues.

    A hands-on approach with good problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly between the Birmingham and Witney businesses.
