How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    M&E Quantity Surveyor
    Location: Cambridge
    Salary: £65,000 up to £75,000 + Benefits
    Our client is a respected Mechanical & Electrical Building Services contractor, delivering innovative design, installation and maintenance solutions across East Anglia. Working across a diverse range of commercial, education and public sector projects, they have built a strong reputation for quality, reliability and technical expertise, supported by an experienced team of Mechanical and Electrical Engineers.
    Due to continued growth, they are looking to recruit an experienced M&E Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team based in Cambridge.

    The Role
    Reporting directly to the Commercial Manager, you will take commercial responsibility for a range of Mechanical & Electrical projects from pre-construction through to final account. You will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered profitably while maintaining excellent relationships with clients, subcontractors and internal teams.
    This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor looking to join a stable, respected contractor with a strong pipeline of work and genuine long-term career prospects.

    Key Responsibilities

    Manage the commercial aspects of multiple M&E projects from award through to completion.
    Prepare valuations, applications for payment and cash flow forecasts.
    Produce monthly Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR) reports and commercial forecasts.
    Prepare commercial reports for senior management.
    Procure subcontract packages and negotiate the best commercial outcomes.
    Draft and issue subcontract and plant orders.
    Assess subcontractor applications and issue payment notices in line with contract requirements.
    Manage project variations, ensuring all changes are accurately valued and recorded.
    Prepare Extension of Time (EOT) submissions with supporting documentation where required.
    Monitor project costs using the COINS procurement system and buying schedules.
    Work closely with project managers and operational teams to ensure successful project delivery.
    Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers and subcontractors.
    Ensure compliance with JCT and NEC forms of contract.
    About You
    To be successful in this role, you will have previous experience as an M&E Quantity Surveyor or within a commercial role in the Building Services sector.
    You will also have:

    A minimum of 5 years' experience within a commercial or pre-construction environment.
    Good working knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts.
    Strong commercial awareness and excellent negotiation skills.
    Experience preparing CVRs, valuations, variations and final accounts.
    Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
    Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and commercial management systems.
    A full UK driving licence.
    A valid CSCS card or eligibility to obtain one.

    Desirable

    Background in Mechanical, Electrical or Plumbing services.
    HNC/HND in Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
    Degree or formal qualification in Quantity Surveying.
