How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Primary Supply Teachers – Watford & Surrounding Areas, Hertfordshire

Join Our Supply Team for September 2026

"Supply teaching gives you the freedom to focus on what you do best – teaching. Leave the meetings, paperwork and planning behind while enjoying flexibility, variety and the opportunity to experience a range of fantastic primary schools."

Due to increasing demand from our partner primary schools across Watford and the surrounding areas of Hertfordshire, Supply Desk is looking for enthusiastic and dedicated Primary Supply Teachers to join our growing supply team from September 2026.

Whether you're looking for one day a week, a few days each week or full-time supply work, we'll help you find opportunities that fit around your lifestyle.

    Your Role

As a Supply Teacher, you will:

Deliver engaging lessons across EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 (we will try and accomodate your preference where possible)
Cover planned lessons in welcoming primary schools throughout Watford and the surrounding Hertfordshire areas
Create a positive and productive classroom environment
    Manage classroom behaviour effectively
Ensure pupils remain engaged and make the most of their learning
Provide clear feedback to the class teacher at the end of the day

We Would Love to Hear From

    Fully Qualified Teachers (QTS)
    Early Career Teachers (ECTs)
    Experienced Supply Teachers
    PPA Cover Teachers
Unqualified Teachers with relevant classroom experience

    Why Choose Supply Teaching?

Supply teaching offers far more than flexibility. It's an opportunity to shape your career around your life while gaining valuable experience in a wide variety of schools.

    Enjoy Genuine Flexibility

You decide when you work. Whether you're balancing family commitments, studying, travelling, pursuing other interests or simply looking for a better work-life balance, supply teaching allows you to choose the days that suit you.

Work as little or as much as you like
Choose full days, part weeks or full-time assignments
Weekly availability updates mean you're always in control of your schedule

    Experience a Variety of Schools

One of the biggest advantages of supply teaching is the opportunity to work in a range of excellent primary schools across Watford and Hertfordshire.

Every school has its own unique ethos, leadership style and community. By working in different settings, you'll:

Discover the type of school where you thrive
Build experience across a wide range of year groups and teaching styles
    Develop your confidence and adaptability
Meet supportive leadership teams and expand your professional network
Gain valuable experience that strengthens your CV
Many teachers tell us they enjoy the variety, with every week bringing new experiences and opportunities.

    Try Before You Commit

Considering a permanent teaching role but unsure which school is right for you?

Supply teaching allows you to experience schools firsthand before making a long-term commitment. Many of our supply teachers are later offered permanent or long-term positions in schools they've grown to love.

A Great Way to Return to Teaching

If you've taken a career break or are returning after maternity leave or time away from the classroom, supply teaching is an excellent way to rebuild confidence and ease back into teaching at your own pace.

    Ongoing Support

At Supply Desk, we don't simply find you work—we support you throughout your teaching journey.

    We provide:

Access to training and CPD opportunities
