The opportunity
We are recruiting an experienced Production Engineer to join a well-established precision engineering business supporting the aerospace, defence, energy, marine and advanced manufacturing sectors. This is a hands-on position combining CAD/CAM programming, multi-axis machining, new-product introduction and continuous improvement.
You will take new components from customer drawings or 3D models through programming, proving and production, while providing technical support to the wider manufacturing operation.
Key responsibilities
* Create CNC programs from customer drawings and 3D models using online and offline programming.
* Set and prove programs on 3, 4 and 5-axis machining centres and mill-turn equipment.
* Produce manufacturing process plans, routings, set-up sheets and supporting production documentation.
* Specify and design tooling, fixtures, gauges and work holding solutions.
* Produce accurate 2D drawings and 3D models to support manufacture.
* Review existing programs and manufacturing methods to improve cycle times, capacity, quality and reliability.
* Investigate manufacturing problems, identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
* Provide technical support to Engineering, Production, Quality and Inspection teams.
* Maintain accurate engineering records and provide technical guidance or training to colleagues.
Skills and experience
* A minimum of five years’ experience within production, manufacturing or CNC engineering.
* Strong experience programming, setting and proving 3, 4 and 5-axis CNC machinery.
* Knowledge of milling, turning and mill-turn manufacturing, ideally including Mazak Integrex equipment.
* Experience using CAD/CAM software to create CNC programs, solid models and engineering drawings.
* Experience machining different materials to tight tolerances.
* A good understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T, materials, coatings and manufacturing treatments.
* Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis capabilities.
* The right to live and work in the UK.
Experience of Mastercam, Mazak, Fanuc or Heidenhain controls, IFS ERP software and ASME Y14.5 standards would be advantageous.
Previous experience within an AS9100-regulated aerospace or defence environment would also be beneficial.
A relevant engineering qualification, such as a City & Guilds, NVQ or equivalent, would be advantageous. Applications are also welcomed from experienced engineers who have developed equivalent technical knowledge through industry experience.
Working hours
* Monday to Thursday, 7:30am–4:30pm, and Friday, 8:00am–1:00pm.
